05:56 AM Feb 05, 2011

SINGAPORE - The Istana received 16,562 visitors during its Open House on Friday and they were entertained by bands from Jurong Primary, Ahmad Ibrahim Secondary and Presbyterian High School.

There was also a Chinese dance performance by the People's Association Talents and a Jurong Bird Park exhibit. Joining in the celebrations were President S R Nathan and Mrs Nathan.

It was also Open House day - with free admission - at the National Heritage Board's seven museums.

At the Singapore Philatelic Museum, in conjunction with the "Indonesia - land of dance and dragon" exhibition, an exotic Indonesian dance performance as well as a playful love duet and puppet shows greeted visitors.

At the Asian Civilisations Museum, visitors had a taste of the Congo. Its exhibition features sculptures that illustrate Central African artistic traditions.
