I think last time they always managed to paint a bad picture of CSJ as dishonest from over claiming taxi fare etc. But now Singaporeans are alot wiser to see through these tactics.

SG's MP salary is too high compared to their responsibilities. Other countries' MPs have to travel long distances between their capitals and constituencies and travel abroad to influence foreign policy. SG MPs also are part timers--most (besides the oppo MPs) are full time workers.

If Roy is able to run at the next GE he is unlikely to win. In fact I would say that it would be advantageous for the PAP to have Roy run so as to defeat him politically. Remember 2 previous precedents: In 1988 Francis Seow was released from detention deliberately so that he could fight the 1988 GE. He was defeated, albeit very narrowly (and offered an NCMP seat, but was unable to take it up). In 1996, CSJ demanded a one-on-one contest with Matthias Yao; then PM Goh Chok Tong obliged and carved out MacPherson from Marine Parade GRC so as to facilitate that contest for GE1997. CSJ was defeated decisively, polling just under 35% of the vote. If everything were to remain as it is now, I would say that RN would poll just over 40% in a GE standing as part of a GRC team. However, things do not remain the same politically. Politics is fluid. RN's current popularity over the CPF issue would dissipate by the next GE. His views on other issues, such as not to criticise FTs or that the Little India riot had nothing to do with alcohol but workers' living conditions, will not endear him to middle ground voters -- those issues are way on the left of politics, and that is where Roy resides politically. Furthermore, other info on RN will likely be released by the other side closer to the next GE to ensure that he polls under 40%.
