From your title, just wondering how you derived that the 56-year old man is fussy, choosy and picky ?

Can salso share how you can be sure there are really 100,000 jobs going to be available and what jobs/where are they ?

I am aware there are many many more people like him, displaced froom the job-market and 'over-qualified' even if they are willing to do security/part-time jobs but not given the slightest chance by employers.

If he asked for 1/2 of a FT pay....say $700 a mth.
Employer will hire him wan....

If FT ask for $650....he can bid for $550.
Be more competitive.

Gahmen say...the 2 IRs bring alot of jobs to sinkies.
In fact...other countries having economy crisis...we r having economy boom.
Low employment & higher spending.

They r lazy.
If they work 7 days a week, 12hrs a day & $700 a month.
Employers will find them attractive to hire.

the reality shows that even civil service is not interested in hiring older workers....

how could Ministar without Portfoilio Lim Boon Heng even consider saying Singaporeans should work until 65 years of age?

I don't know why the father does't not want to apply for a job in the cabinet. The cabinet employs really old people.

this trend is indeed worrying, a lot of uncles like him end up driving taxis. Some with kids grown-up still ok,those got kids still studying is quite hectic for them.
in angmo countries, majority can work until retire. In sg, it's just opposite.

His father is choosy because he won't take a toilet cleaning job that requires him to work 12 hours a day and pays him a princely sum of $300 per month.

Kenneth Goh's 57 year old dad would have most likely finished paying off the mortgage on his property. The current generation will not be so lucky when they find themselves made obsolete in their 50s.

The Shit Papers, in the past weeks had been on a propaganda campaign on how so many Older workers are still at their jobs, eg the woman working in the opearting theatre, the bartender at Tanglin Club..... Honestly, how many, when they reach that age are still holding on to job? No only to a job, but meaningful work & pay, that are equitable to them?

Wooden will tell you..."Old is GOLD"...but in reality the working world out ther...it is OLD IS GO!!!!:p

The stories featured were those who truly loved their jobs. Why don't the brothel come out with stories of how people have to take the grind at unpleasant jobs because they can't retire? Or people who were retrenched from jobs they have come to love and asked to take jobs that they don't like and accept much reduced pay because of the foreign workers? Because these stories can't sell well, and incur the master's wrath.
