[TD="class: msgtxt"]PE: SCCCI endorses Tony Tan for President
ChannelNewsasia.com - 1 hr 13 mins ago
SINGAPORE: The Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCCI) has thrown its weight behind potential presidential candidate Tony Tan.
The council members feel that Dr Tan's all-round experience as a political leader, international exposure and vast knowledge of economic and financial management is a great advantage.
In addition, at a time when the global economy is being rocked by uncertainty, the Chamber believes Dr Tan would be in the best position to guard Singapore's reserves.
It added that the Presidential Election will have significant impact on Singapore's reputation and foreign investors' confidence in the economy.
The Chamber pointed out that in order to achieve social cohesion, the President has to unify all Singaporeans, regardless of race, culture, religious beliefs or political persuasions. In order to shoulder this responsibility, he has to be a leader who is not only a highly respected individual but one who is caring, knowledgeable and capable.
The President should be familiar with the government and has maintained excellent relations at the community level. He should also be able to use his influence to help the more disadvantaged members of society and be exemplary in upholding Singapore's global standing.
Thus, he needs to be highly qualified and knowledgeable, and earn the trust and respect of political and community leaders within and outside Singapore.
What's going on ? 12 unions + now one chinese chamber of commerce. Very soon it will be RI, OCBC, MINDEF, etc will all coming to endorse this wannabe

It appears that most of Singaporeans endorse Dr Tony Tan candidacy for president except 60% of people in Hougang and Aljunied, 40% elsewhere, and many more members from this forum - except those with surname Tan.

I think Dr Tony Tan is a natural choice. As George Lam used to say in his Guinness Stout commercial : "There is only one choice."
