2-year-old Ireland Nugent ran behind her father's riding lawn mower and slipped. Her father, Jeremiah Nugent, 47, had just finished cutting the grass at their Palm Harbor home and was reversing down the driveway and did not see his little girl. He hit and dragged little Ireland down the driveway and onto the street before he realized what had happened.
Ireland darted from the backyard into the front yard. Then, when she saw her father, she ran to him and began calling out, 'Daddy, Daddy.'
Jeremiah couldn't hear her due to the lawnmower and had not noticed that his daughter had tripped behind the machine, and he only realized that something was wrong when his wife alerted him that he was about to drive over something.
:(:(The toddler instantly lost both of her legs below the knee and one of her hands was severely injured.:(:(
:("Before she was being sedated on the lawn at our house, she was asking where her legs were, so she knew at that time she didn't have legs," Nicole Nugent, Ireland’s mother, said.:(
Neighbour Aly Smith helped wrap the little girl in towels and put pressure on her legs to help stop the bleeding. Smith was also comforting the little girl.
:("She kept saying, 'I want to go to bed. I want my daddy and I want to go to bed,' anything to keep her talking," Smith explained.:(
