He has already decided that the opposition is out to create trouble for the government - without even the first word being uttered in the august house. A statesman would have said something along the following line - "It is good that the electorate has finally been granted the wish for having opposition voices. I believe that they are good men and women and I am sure they will be able to play their small part in contributing to the Singapore we all want it to be. The government looks forward to their active participation in working with the government in steering through the difficult seas ahead. And along the way, we hope that the opposition will be able to see why certain things cannot be done and that they will help the government to convince the ground of some hard decisions with which some people will not be happy with."
But then, again, I fantasise. In all likelihood, he is planning how to fix the opposition.
