Michelle Reis is known as the ‘Most Beautiful Miss Hongkong Of All Time’ and it seems that nickname is applicable not just to her physical appearance but her life as well. The now 48-year-old (wait what?) was a tabloid mainstay for most of her career as a film star, no thanks to her relationship with
Leon Lai. But ever since she married businessman Julian Hui in 2008, she's been living a life of relative peace, not to mention, luxury.

But she and her hubby have found themselves in the news again this week after the passing of Julian’s 97-year-old dad, Hui Sai Fun, the low-profile shipping and property tycoon said to be worth a whopping HK$42bil (S$7.4bil). Sai Fun was the youngest son of Hui Oi Chow, who made his wealth by importing foreign products in the late 1800s, eventually earning himself the nickname ‘King of Ships’. In the mid-1900s, Oi Chow parlayed his shipping business into property investment and Sai Fun took over the family business in 1967. The Huis now own some of the most coveted real estate space in Hongkong’s Central district, like the Central Building, which is reportedly worth S$2.3bil alone.
And now with the passing of the patriarch of one of Hongkong’s wealthiest families — not to mention everyone’s obsession with the lives of the crazy rich — the question naturally becomes: who gets to inherit all his money?

Michelle, Julian and their son Jayden Max
Yesterday, the Hongkong media revealed that Sai Fun had placed all his assets in a trust fund, which his remaining family members will be able to draw on upon his death. Rumour has it that the tycoon had arranged this so that his children and grandchildren will not have to worry about their living expenses for the rest of their lives.
Julian and Michelle, who have a seven-year-old son Jayden Max, will reportedly receive some HK$2mil (S$350K) a month as “allowance”. But it’s not like Julian, 56, needs the money. He is after all the director of the family’s Central Development group, a director of Jardine Strategic and also sits on the board of Mandarin Oriental International. Julian, who was married to casino king Stanley Ho’s daughter Pansy Ho from 1991 to 2000, also has an elder sister Hui Suet Yuen. His elder brother Jenkin Hui passed away in 2014 at age 75.

It’s said that Sai Fun had doted on Julian the most and that the love extended to Julian and Michelle’s son Jayden Max. In 2011, the tycoon even threw a HK$5mil (S$876K) 100-day party for the boy, which when you think about it, is like three months of allowance for his parents.
