For decades, the BTK killer was a ghost. Dennis Rader murdered ten people around Wichita, Kansas, then taunted police with letters for years before going silent.

His ego pulled him back. He started sending letters and packages again, but with no return address, police had no way to answer him. So Rader set up his own channel. He told them to send him coded messages through classified ads in the local newspaper.

Then he asked the question that ruined it all. Could he send a floppy disk without it being traced to his computer. He told police to "be honest", and to reply in the paper.

Police ran an ad telling him it was safe... It was not.

Rader mailed in a disk. Investigators pulled a deleted file off it and found hidden data showing it had last been saved by someone named Dennis, on a computer at Christ Lutheran Church.

Rader was the president of that church. They had his name and his front door within days.

When they arrested him, he was not remorseful. He was offended. He looked at the detective who ran the ad and asked how come you lied to me. The detective told him it was because he was trying to catch him.
