In 2008, Californian voters approved funding for an 800-mile rail link between San Francisco and Los Angeles, while at the same time China's government began construction on a similar length railway between Beijing and Shanghai.

Three years later the Chinese line opened at a cost of only $36bil and carried over 1.4bil passengers in its first decade of operation. The first segment of California’s train line will open only in 2033 at an estimated cost of $128bil.

Looks like the Shitty Times is publishing 'speak a good story of China' propaganda now.

The high speed rail should have never been built in California, the Democrats most likely used the project to enrich themselves.

cannot compare to one and the bluest state, californicate. it’s the most corrupt, ineffective and inept state among 50. red states are doing fine. cal is run by the most unqualified jokers in the whole cuntry, from blm to illegals to dei to woke to lgbtq to pedophiles to drug addicts. the nearest mass rapid transit station near one of my homes took 16.9 years to finish. i have documented its decades old (dis)progress in a transit thread on sbf. now it’s infested with substance abusers and homeless gangs.

California economy by itself, is currently bigger than japan and . .....

California's economy was the world's fourth-largest economy in 2024, with a Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of $4.1 trillion, surpassing Japan's economy of $4.02 trillion. This places California behind only the United States, China, and Germany in global economic rankings. The state's economy is a powerhouse in manufacturing, high-tech, agriculture, and entertainment

US has not built a major highway or railway in decades. The generation that built the highways all retired or dead. They lost the ability to build such projects. I think Japan now faces similar problem. As their last high speed rail was way back in the 1990's.
