i thought the govt can buy land for 1 cent or 1 dollar how come they would pay 300 million?
Thai was before,I was paid exactly S$1 for one plot in Newton,around 1980+

They changed the law to market value subsequently,I am not sure what year
 
My grandfather's rather vast land holdings in the present Serangoon North was acquired by the government under the Land Acquisition Act for peanuts.

But you can be spoilt by the constant noisy SAF live firing, the soot from the passing ships and sand and pollutants from opp Johore Bahru, not to mention the flare stack that reverberates thru the whole of Ponggol/Seletar environs. And smells from dead seadebris at low tide.

Cashin has lovely house at the end of Lim Chu Kang facing the Johor Straits. It has a rotunda about 20m into the sea linked by a walkway. A quiet retreat.
