Thinking of getting an Ipad, any adviCe?

Hey, thanks for the input. Like that it is one more reason that makes the ipad not a friendly travel companion liao:( Don't think I can get micro sims from the mei mei at the airport:o

Yes, it is Micro Sim _ not Mini Sim though

I feel that you dun need a 3G iPad, a wifi will do in SG.

3G iPad (bad points)
1) You need to subscribe a plan
2) If you live on high floors, 3G connection is damn weak, I stayed at 25th floor, terrible. Just sync it to your iPhone and connect through hotspot
3) If overseas, you need to buy their prepaid plan i suppose

Wifi
1) You can access freely anywhere in SG with WirelessSG
2) If you at home, just use your iPhone to tether, or use your wireless router also can. With 12 gig a month, its enough for you to stream movies everyday.
3) For overseas, most hotels have wifi connection, even if its LAN, you can buy those compact traveller wireless router to hook it to your iPad.

I do own iPad2, been using it like this since April. So I feel Wifi is suffice, with 16gig at least.

If you are a traveller & need to use the GPS functionality of the iPad, take note that only the 3G model has the necessary hardware to support GPS. The WiFi only model cannot do GPS.

Yeap, this 1 i agree, LOL

If I get the Ipad model with 3G; does it mean that if I am not in SG all I need to do is to get a local (overseas) micro sim (dedicated for internet connectivity) and slot it into the sim tray in the Ipad, and I am good to go?

Should be bah, but with time limit or space limit, i think.

Thank for your patience, hope I stretch it abit more:o

What do you mean by time limit and space limit?

Do you mean signal strenght out in the open area? I intend to use it in remote places in wulu provinces in China.

Like what botak said, his top up of 600baht, maybe have a space limit of 1gig download, or may 90 minutes usages, you have to ask botak regarding this.

Ok, this I know, it comes with the type of plan. I got a "huawei" modem adapter with sim card slot for my lappy that allows me to surf net in open area. Just curious with the Ipad, that's why I asked.

If you have the USB stick, get this travellers wireless router, something like this. Then connect through wifi, like this you dun need a 3G iPad at all, unless GPS is necessary for you.

Unrepented, I have a better way if you are overseas, you get the overseas plan with the normal sim card, ask the seller to cut it into microsim card size, so u can use it on your iPad.

then you use this microsim-to-simcard adapter, and you can plug it in into your usb stick to surf on your comp

The Mac Book Air 11" is almost as compact as a tablet. Pop into a Mac store and see for yourself.

5 hours of battery life is gross misrepresentation though. More like 3.5 hours. It all depends on how you configure your energy saving parameters. If you want better battery life, go for the 13" model but then it's no longer almost as small as a tablet.

Touch typists like myself hate tablets as you can't rest your fingers on the keypads. You need to purchase a bluetooth keyboard but then it's no longer a tablet.

I am using iPad for most of my works. I'm using my iPad as a presentation to my clients. Even my schedule and emails is plan straight from my iPad.

Whenever I go for inspection, any error will be snap by my iPhone and email or mms to my suppliers and request to rectify ASAP.

I got a PDF form which my clients can sign straight off and email them right on the spot. All from my iPad.

Btw, I'm using multi-sim card which cost only additional 5 bucks per month. 12GB usage us more than enough for my works.

Even for my leisure, ebook from iPad (Dan brown's The lost symbol) which I'm reading now.

Needless to say, battery life is more trustworthy than MacBook air or any laptop.

 I didnt know that we can cut the sim card without damaging it. Learnt something new:)

Thanks for your recommendations, will be very useful if I get an Ipad.

Thanks for the feedback. Good to know you had your money's worth and the Ipad meet your current needs.

I am trying to find out more whether it will meet mine as well.

One of my concerns is connectivity and hardware compatibility if we travel extensively.:)

Thanks bros, I will definitely get the cutter and the microsim to simcard adapter, and make it part of my travel kit regardless if I get an Ipad.:)
