Sleepbox Hotel Tverskaya - Moscow, Russia

These capsule boxes might not look too luxurious, but the minimalist rooms contain a TV, noise insulation and iPads. Not one for any claustrophobics out there,
but a good option for those who just want a cheap, comfortable place to lay their head for the night.

Costa Verde - Quepos, Costa Rica

A two-bedroom suite, built from a vintage 1965 Boeing 727, is the highlight of this hotel, which is set on a coastal rainforest bluff about two-hours from San Jose’s international airport.
Reminiscent of a crash site, this Lost-style room offers guests a night overlooking exotic wildlife including toucans, sloths and monkeys.

Hang Nga Guesthouse (Crazy House Hotel) - Dalat, Vietnam

Hang Nga Guesthouse, or Crazy House as it's known by locals, is a bizarre Vietnamese hotel comprised of twisting passageways, tree-like exteriors, spider web windows, and shonky ladders leading to precarious rooms. There's also a selection of creepy stylised animals thrown in for good measure... The first incarnation of the house was torn down for being anti-socialist, but the current avant-garde design is still pretty out there. How did this building get approved? It helps when your father was a former president.

Karosta Prison

Latvia

As far as bizarre hotels go, this one takes the prize. A former KGB prison that’s been converted into a hotel, it’s been called the most haunted place on Earth.
Don’t expect a hotel experience, prison guards meet you at the door, and whatever you do don’t expect room service from them.

Crazy Bear - Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire

What was once a refined 16th century coaching inn has been transformed into an eye-poppingly eclectic hotel. With a décor theme that takes inspiration from Vegas strip clubs,
Napoleonic drinking dens and 60s Soho hipster clubs, staying the night at the Crazy Bear is an experience not to be missed.

Capadoccia Cave Resort - Turkey

Think sleeping in a cave means roughing it? Think again. Capadoccia Cave Resort in Turkey has created a tranquil, luxurious space with some of the most incredible views you'll find.
Set on the edge of a hill in Anatolia, the resort boasts a fabulous restaurant, massive outdoor swimming pool, and traditional Turkish bath.

Free Spirit Spheres - Vancouver Island, Canada

These wooden spherical pods in the forests of Vancouver Island are surely the chicest way to spend the night in the treetops. Accessed via a spiral staircase and short suspension bridge,
these beautifully crafted nut-like pods are a dream for architect enthusiasts and those who yearn to get closer to nature.

Treehotel - Harads, Sweden

In keeping with the treetop theme, this hotel offers five unique treerooms built by some of Scandinavia’s leading architects. Each room is different, with one being UFO themed and another
mirrored cube that blends in perfectly with its surrounds. All have views over the Lule River and will be sure to provide you with the most memorable hotel stay you’ve ever had.

quinta_real_18s2gi6-18s2gpf.jpg

Quinta Real Zacatecas - Mexico

One of Mexico's most unusual hotels, Quinta Real Zacatecas is built into the grandstand of the restored San Pedro bullfighting ring.
The ring hasn’t seen a fight since the 1970’s, but its still full of character.

Palacio de Sal- Bolivia

Built entirely of salt, yes you read that correctly, Palacio de Sal Bolivia is the first hotel of its kind. The floors, walls, ceilings and even much of the furniture is made of it. The 16 guest rooms look
a little like igloos made of salt, but contain their own private ensuite. For those wanting to enjoy a salt scrub treatment, it too is made from the same salt as the walls.

V8 Hotel - Boblingen, Germany

If you know someone who’s a car fanatic, you can’t do better than to treat them to a night at this car themed hotel set in an auto museum. This four-star hotel has 34 rooms, many of which are themed with some even featuring real cars, such as the Mercedes and Morris Minor rooms. Not enough car action for you? The hotel is well-placed for tours of the Porsche and Mercedes Benz factories, too.

Marina Bay Sands - Singapore

Billed as the world's most expensive standalone casino, Marina Bay Sands in Singapore is the very essence of style and extravagance. Impressive in both size and design, the crowning glory on this Singaporean masterpiece is like a giant cruise ship suspended in the sky.

balade_des_gnomes_18rvfti-18rvfut.jpg

La Balade des Gnomes

Belgium

Straight out of a Tim Burton-esque movie, La Balade des Gnomes offers 10 rooms each built around different fairy tales, with a slightly surreal yet imaginative twist to them.
The owner also runs a restaurant using only local organic produce.

7_huttenplast_19crlom-19crlpl.jpg

Huttenpalast - Berlin, Germany

Quirky doesn’t quite cover it when it comes to this hotel. Housed inside a former vacuum-cleaner factory, guests sleep in caravans or wooden cabins that are set inside the building.
The theme continues with potted plants and picnic tables, making it a year-round way to enjoy the great outdoors, indoors.

1_dogbark_19crlom-19crlp8.jpg

Dog Bark Park Inn - Idaho, USA

It goes without saying that this giant beagle-shaped hotel is for seriously devoted dog lovers only. Constructed out of wood, the hound-like hotel can sleep four people. As well as being a B&B,
this oddly fashioned hotel is also a showcase for the owners, who are carpenters specialising in canines. Want to get your dog immortalised in wood while you’re there? Not a problem.
