As the Committees of Inquiry’s (COI) findings were being presented in Parliament yesterday afternoon, Madam Felicia Seah was by her son’s grave in Lim Chu Kang.

She had gone to Private Dominique Sarron Lee Rui Feng’s grave after the meeting with SAF, where she was told that her son’s officer had breached safety regulations, contributing to his death.

“They not only breached the TSR (Training Safety Regulations), they breached my trust too. When my son went into the army, they promised to keep him safe, but look what happened,” she said in voice that cracked.

Madam Seah's brother, Mr Seah, said: "We still have many unanswered questions and we want to talk to someone from the COI to find out the whole truth.”

Jeep driver was unlicensed
November 15, 2012 - 1:57am
By:
Rennie WhangFoo Jie YingThird Sergeant Tan Mou Sheng (above), 20, died after the jeep he was in overturned.

In the incident that happened on May 11 around 6.50am, not only was 3rd Sgt Tan and the other rear seat passenger not wearing safety belts or a helmet, the driver was also not licensed to be behind the wheel.

A Committees of Inquiry found that there were previous instances of unlicensed driving, and that the vehicle commander also did not ensure that the jeep passengers wore their helmets or safety belts.

Five people have been re-deployed to assignments where they will not be supervising soldiers for training or operations after 3rd Sgt Tan's death.

every year for the past 10 yrs, about 2 lives of promising young men enlisted in the army serving their national service ended up dead. such sad and fatal incidents shouldn't have occurred. yet it did.....for 10 yrs.

how many parents were being devastated by the loss of their son? how many lives due to such unexpected demises were ruined along with it?

In other words, we are giving our sons to be killed...and they are worth only $100, whereas the FT's & many PR's don't even serve NS...why have sons??

The Defence Minister should resign from his post.
If not he should lose one son , then he will fully understand the pain these parents are going through

By the way , anyone know if insurance cover army duty or not ? If yes, then cover every at least $10m .
Since stat is so low ntuc can be main insurer.

I think yes but coverage is not very much and could depend on your rank. You still need to cover yourself adequately.

the design of the new saf jeep is just flawed.
in my army days the old type jeep has lower centre of gravity..the new one is so high and is proned to overturn...
