These baby animals look nothing like their parents

Kittens look just like cats when they're born. Well, they look even more adorable, but the point is that, at least they have the same shape and most of them keep the same color.

But not all animals are like this. In fact, some are born looking completely different from their parents. From mammals to birds, you'll be surprised by how dissimilar they appear.

Cardinal - The cardinal goes from a tiny scruffy-looking animal to such a beautiful bird.

Giant panda - These adorable mammals are born blind, pink, and hairless. They're also really tiny!

Peacock - If there's an animal that blossoms with age (quite literally), it's the peacock.

Silvered leaf monkey - Also known as silvery lutung or the silvery langur, this little fellow is born with orange fur and looks completely different from its parents.

Camaflouge with the woods, less appetite for the enemy, hot in the summer....

Tapir - Tapir calves have markings that work as camouflage to ward off predators. They lose them as they grow into adults.

Bactrian camel - These animals don't fully develop their two humps until they're adults. Their fur and color changes too.

Turkey - Turkey chicks are just so cute. It's unbelievable how much they change when they turn into adults.

Echidna - It takes about 50 days for these little mammals to develop their spikes.

Flamingo - These are not born pink like their parents. Flamingos gradually change their color due to their diet.

Octopus - This mollusk looks quite different in the first stages of life. It's almost like a tiny water spider!

Pigeon - Surely you've seen plenty of adult pigeons around. But how many pigeon chicks have you seen? They look quite different from their parents too.

Sloth - These adorable creatures are born with a smile on their faces, but they change appearance when they grow up. They still look particularly content though.

Butterfly - A beautiful example of metamorphosis, the butterfly starts its life as a caterpillar.

Penguin - Baby penguins have a different coat color from that of their parents. They're fluffier too!

Frog - Tadpoles first develop a tail before turning into adult amphibians. Depending on the species, this can take months or even years.

Emu - Contrary to their parents, emu chicks have stripes. These are supposed to help protect them from predators.

Barn Owl - A barn owl looks like this when it's born. It's hard to believe it develops into such a beautiful bird.

Dragonfly - These insects develop wings and change colors as they grow into adults.
