Samsung: There's no 128 GB version of Galaxy Note 5 or S6 Edge+
Buyers hoping for a higher capacity model of Samsung's new handsets aren't getting what they want. That's OK, a 128 GB Galaxy would likely cost more than $1,000.

Samsung's new Galaxy Note 5 and S6 Edge+ will only be available in 32 GB and 64 GB capacities, contrary to some information suggesting 128 GB models would be sold.
After a listing for a 128 GB edition appeared on Samsung's pre-order site, a company spokesperson confirmed to SlashGear that there's no such model.
That means with the removal of the microSD card slot on both devices -- like the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge before -- 64 GB of local storage is the most you can get with Samsung's latest handsets.
Given the what I think is unwise premium pricing for the Note 5 and S6 Edge+, that may be a good thing. Samsung is generally charging $100 more for each storage capacity bump, so a 128 GB model could retail for more than $1,000; AT&T is selling the 64 GB Galaxy S6 Edge+ for $915, for example.
Indeed, the entire starting price of admission for one of the new Galaxy phones can be higher than that of Apple's. I wouldn't recommend the base iPhone 6 for most people since it only comes with 16 GB of storage but a 64 GB model can be had for $749. Bumping up to 128 GB brings the price to $849 unlocked and off-contract.
Samsung is hoping not just to gain sales before the next iPhone models but to do so at higher prices which could boost margins in the short-term.
To do that, however, it needs to convince a high number of buyers that the edge display and digital S-Pen -- along with the apps to support those -- are worth the premium, which could be a tough sell.
