There is a bigger issue than the Population White Paper

He has a point. Think about this. We used to trust the Government a lot. A lot of Singaporeans used to have the “你办事，我放心” (I’ve confidence in the things you do) attitude towards the Government in the past. Things have changed. If the Government announce the Population White Paper 30 years ago, most Singaporeans will accept it without much questions. Why did we reject the Population White Paper so quickly without looking at the plans carefully? Why are we so sure that the Population White Paper won’t work?

Perhaps the bigger problem here is not the 6.9 million population or ageing population. The bigger problem we are facing now is that Singaporeans’ confidence level towards the Government has gone down. A lot of us no longer believe that the existing Government is capable of solving our problems.

And perhaps some of you might disagree with me, but I think this confidence problem is a far bigger issue than the ageing population. It is useless to have a good doctor if the patient refuse to take the medicine.

Even more worrying is that sinkies in general now no longer thinks that the pap has their best interest at heart, so it is not a matter of capability, but true intention.

Ok, govt says we don't hv enough pple, thus needs to increase population to 6.9M in a short 17 yrs. Most of the foreigners that join us are not in their teens, but middle age fr 25 yr-old onward, bringing with them their old folks, on top of this, quite some of them also only give birth to one! Ok, let's put aside the facts that they will bring their elderly + only give birth to 1 or the most 2. These foreigners will help to slow down the aging of our population, while our govt on the other hand is busying reclaiming lands to house them.

My question is, which is a real concern, what will happen in another 40 yrs from now, that is say when these foreigners are into their 50s - 60s fr the time they join us, are we going to take in another additional 2M or more people and reclaim more lands, again making up 10 AMK to house them. So our population will grow up to 9M! And then the cycle keeps repeating itself, with our government believing that our land can keep growing unlimited.... And all our people can survive happily in such a jam-packed environment! What short-sightedness!

Yet, less than a week later, we found to our dismay (but no longer surprised) that the goodies were actually part and parcel of their plans for bringing in yet more FTs.

Again, I always admire the degree of stupidity of their spin masters, using 1960s style strategy and executions to pull wool over our eyes.
