SINGAPORE : From Saturday until polling day on May 10, nearly 510,000 registered Filipino absentee voters around the world will be casting their votes in 90 Philippine embassies and consulates for the upcoming Philippine elections.
Some 30,000 have registered to vote in Singapore. Voters turned up at the Philippine Embassy in Nassim Road. 200 voters showed up on the first day and 275 on Sunday.
In the embassy, their hand-marked ballots went into an optical scan machine - used to tally hand-marked ballots speedily. One voter said: "They are very organised and they will show me what has to be done."
Another commented: "They put in more effort just to make sure the election can be carried out here in Singapore. And to make sure that everybody, those eligible to vote here in Singapore, can come over." - CNA/ms
