Re: There are 27,000 Sec. students that need money assistance for food in S'pore!! WT

From my secret squirrel, many in ITE also in this same category. If we include the polys, quite clearly we aren't a first world country.

I guess the difference between the have and haves not is very stark, coming not from the adults but from their children........

Those that are able to go for yearly or even half yearly holidays and those that even need help with their recess money.

Frankly was quite shocked by the numbers of 27,000 for secondary cohorts, what about those in primary school, will it be similar or even higher.

As for the ite or poly or even u students, taking up part time jobs was the norm in my days.......to help with the family finances......

They will, if I were them, I will f$#$^^^&& the pxp for putting my parents into that dire straits.....& I make sure, my descendants move out of here....or don't vote for these people, who put me in that situation....that is how grateful I will be....the saying goes, " xiang si yi, kwee si yi"....roughly " angel they are, devil they are too"...or the hylam would say " lang bo di lang, kwee bo di kwee"...

I am surprised at the figure of 27, 000 ..wow!... I thought it would a 1,000 +/- , 27,000 that is a very huge figure....that means around 54,000 working adults, at one time or the other, is out of work...

For example, Jan found work, April out of work, May - August struggling to fined another position, September working November out of work....December to the next Jan or Feb, depending when Lunar New Year is....not working.

There are many people in this situation....statistically they are EMPLOYED PEOPLE....but in reality they are jobless....that's how MOM "cook" their employment figures...

It reminds me of those delivery riders that nowadays make delivery for those online retailers. While I am not sure about how the business model work, one delivery will cost between 2.99 to 4.50. As for what they earning am sure will be very little. And nowadays I understand a lot of position is also under contract basis, i.e., 1 year, 1.5 or 2 years.....after that you are pretty much on your own.....again.

Would be very challenging to plan for one finances, what more to get married, buy house, settle down and have kids.......

I like this strategy because this was how the French Revolution started. Namely, hungry people taking to the street to demand the heads of their leaders. I can just picture Gay loong saying "Just let them eat Kueh, lah". Then we chop his fucking head off.

pls make sure the kuehs dont have hums

The "model" of employment changed somewhere in 1985, just after the recession in which a "maverick" Finance minister was in charge...it changed from a long term employment to that of a contract basis. That is, a company may boast of a staff of say 1,000, 50-100 are permanent locals, the locals include "PR" either of Malaysians mostly or other nationalities....they will make up the figures to hire more stinkingporeans in accordance to what our government wants them to do..... the employment of contract staff add to the fact they get the staff from employment agencies & these workers, they do not have to pay annual leave, medical bills plus staff benefits & can, any time...fasterest dismisses them...

Many from them till today are CONTRACT STAFF...so do not be taken in, on any employment statistics they dishes out...
