Bro Joe & Co., please beware.

http://www.tremeritus.com/2012/04/22/another-two-prcs-arrested-for-stealing-on-board-sia-flights/

Two PRC men have been arrested separately for stealing on board two SIA flights on Sat (21 Apr).

In the first case, while on board an SIA flight from Hong Kong to Singapore, a crew member saw a passenger remove a laptop bag from an overhead compartment which was a few seats away from his seat.

Taking the bag back to his seat, he started searching through the bag. Later, the suspect was seen putting the bag back to its original place. The alert crew member informed the owner of the bag and proceeded to detain the 38-year-old PRC.

In the second case, a crew member saw a passenger remove a laptop bag from an overhead compartment near his seat. He then took the bag and moved to the rear of the plane during the boarding process. The SIA flight was from Singapore to Vietnam.

He was then seen removing some cash from the bag. He later returned the bag to the original overhead compartment. The alert crew member then detained the 49-year-old male suspect who is a PRC. Currencies amounting to S$630 belonging to the bag owners were recovered.

Both PRC men will be charged in court on Mon (23 Apr) with theft.

Last month, 2 PRCs were also caught with theft on board an SIA flight, flying from Jakarta to Singapore. Cash of US$5000 which was stolen from the wallet inside the laptop bag belonging to an American passenger was recovered (‘Two PRCs arrested for stealing on board SIA‘).

Since February this year, a few cases of passengers’ valuables, especially cash, kept in hand-carry bags stowed in the overhead compartments, were reported stolen. Passengers usually would not notice as they were either sleeping, working on their PCs or watching inflight movie videos. The airline and its crew members were alerted by the police of the trend.

Police also advise passengers to be careful and to keep their cash and valuables with them instead of in the overhead compartment, while on board aircraft.

Wah. Looks like a syndicate to me.

Now thieves and robbers also can afford to fly.

It depends on how much cash they can steal compared to the price of the airline ticket to board the flights. If the ROI (rate of return) is a positive cash flow, they'll continue to do it.

I noticed that most of the flights affected are short haul regional flights within Asia which are cheaper to board than long haul intercontinental flights. I assume they happened in the economy class as it's more crowded and more confused in the steerage than in business or first class, therefore, better opportunity to steal.

The Chinks will steal from anyone if given the opportunity.

Always be on guard when there are Chinks around in the air, on the ground, and on the sea.

[h=2]Two PRC men arrested for stealing passengers’ cash on board SIA flight[/h]Posted by temasektimes on March 27, 2012
Two PRC men have been arrested for stealing US$5,000 on board a Singapore Airlines flight from Jakarta to Singapore.
Last Sunday, a crew member saw a PRC man searching a laptop bag left by a passenger on an unoccupied seat. He was observed removing cash from the wallet and putting it in his jacket pocket before placing it back into the laptop bag.
The 41 year old PRC man was detained with another 30 year old PRC man who is believed to be his accomplice at the airport. They will be charged in Court today (27 Mar) for ‘Theft with Common Intention’ under Section 379, read with Section 34 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224.
This is not the first time a theft has occurred on a SIA flight. Since February this year, there were several reports made of passengers’ valuables, especially cash being stolen. It is not known if the thefts were committed by the same PRC syndicate or if the men are Singapore PRs / citizens.

indeed it is syndicated and done quite a lot on long haul flights in usually the economy class where there are more passengers per crew and therefore harder to monitor and when the passengers are sometimes asleep or half pissed. Perpetrated often during the crew rest periods when there are even less cabin staff around ( not in TS's example though )
SIA is aware of this problem and have briefed their staff but ultimately as Alamaking says, the onus is on the passengers to take care of their own valuables

Damn brazen, but if the owner never take care of their bags, they deserved to be stolen

Story sounds fishy.

Airline tickets from HK to SGP costs 600 bucks.

They only stole 650 before getting caught. For fifty bucks they go to jail, where got worth it?

Air stewardess all beri good memories, can know which bags belonged to who. Can identify if that bag doesn't belong to owner.

There were many cases the compartment above your seat is full you have to put into one a few rows from your seats.

Worse, newspapers dont even print the names of the fellas getting caught, and can be arrested already.

Can be more transparent or not please?

yes brother these shipside thefts occur too.But the worst thing they can do is not taking things out but putting things in.
There are cases where these criminal syndicates open your bags and put drugs in them which are then opened again at the destination and retrieved.
The problem for you arises when the other side does not receive and this could be for varied reasons. Then you have a bag of illegal stuff and could pay the price for other people's criminal intent.
Better to get good bags when you want to check them in especially at certain airports.

Someone should buy these men 1st class ticket and let them fly with our Ministers. Let them have a taste of the foreign talent's skills. Or at least tell them that 1st class is where the money is.

That's why many from the 3rd world have their bags wrapped up in plastic. It may not stop theft but makes it more inconvenient for the thieves. However don't know if they can still do that with the problem of terrorism.
