instead of trying so hard to distant themselves from Yaw, they could have shown a bit more grace...

something....

We have noted the media release by Yaw Shin Leong and thank him for his endorsement even though he is no longer a member of the Workers' Party. We remain focused on supporting our candidate, Png Eng Huat, for the Hougang by-election.

this only reinforce the image that WP is heartless party that do not give a shit about those who are not useful them and dun give a shit about past contribution....

similarly this release

"The Workers' Party has only nominated Mr Png Eng Huat as our candidate for Hougang SMC. Dr Poh Lee Guan has not informed us of any intention to contest. Dr Poh is still a member of the Party."

serve only to highlight their cluelessness ... a simple.

Nomination Day tomorrow ! come to Serangoon Junior College to show your support for Png Eng Huat!

could have do.

when they could act dumb to hide their ignorance, they choose highlight their cluelessness to media

WP did right, cos he shot himself in the head.

WP clearly need to distant themselves from YSL, who is definitely toxic for WP as far as this BE is concerned (and even the next GE and WP in general). But the media release is indeed quite screwed up and the comments by Eugene in FB summed up very well the sentiments. Looks like PR is still very weak for WP. But don't forget that PAP was making equally terrible statements. Remember the "repent" remarks?

While the media release regarding YSL is too little, the release on PLG is too much. I'm not sure why WP chose to highlight PLG's unilateral action, thereby hinting at internal strife.

I have to agree with broc to an extent. If the words were "he is no longer a member and we wish him all the best", just a few more words would add to graciousness. Actually I would prefer WP not to comment at all - it's hard to strike a balance between disassociation and grace.

But for PLG, he deserves it. I thought WP had too much ado about nothing until everywhere I went people were talking about it. PLG should have known.

The face book reply is straight to the point. WP make it clear that Yaw is no longer its member to avoid States media spinning its wheel again. We all know LTK is very angry with States media that led to Yaw's eventual expulsion, so better keep thing short and sweet to focus on bringing in Png back.

Every politically conscious singaporean
including every opp figure including ex and commentators of all color want to teach LTK how to say the right thing.

Whilst feedback is always that and room for improvement always there,

Sometimes let the man be.

He is who he is.

Chinese ed and proud to continue in the 'Nantah Spirit' ( low's own words ).

Low is no believer in niceties for its own sake or a subscribernof savvy US spin or PR smoothies.

Don't disagree with you, elephanto. Always good to be yourself, you'll come across as genuine and natural.

Part of LTK's appeal is that down-to-earth persona. That would continue to be his strength. But WP does not belong to LTK, and WP cannot be LTK-personified (LTK himself emphasised several times about collective leadership and collective decision making). And for a political party, you can't runaway from PR. Sure, I don't think our political climate here will accept the type of spin doctors we often see in Hollywood movies. But certainly with the sophistication of our electorate, political parties need to have a PR strategies during crucial periods such as during elections.

LTK doesn't need to turn into marshmallow though.
