This couple in my friend's neighbourhood was in financial trouble because hedge too much money in shares. Even after selling his 4 room flat, he still owe various banks tons of money. He can't declare bankruptcy voluntarily as it would mean the end of his career and the ability to repay the remaining loans.
Out of wits, he stayed with his mum in her rental flat to tide over the financial woes. After moving in for a few months, HDB increased his mum rental from a couple of hundred dollars a month to almost $2k because HDB believes that her son was cashing out and taking advantage of the low rental that she is enjoying.
Despite several appeals and pleadings, the rental increase stays.
Sigh, the old lady aged faster than usual due to the stress. The family is now struggling everyday to stay afloat to pay the rental and have a roof over their head. So, when the TV blasted:
THIS IS MY COUNTRY, THIS IS MY FLAG.....
he will burst out: KAN NI LAU BU A PUA CHEE BYE PAP !!
He even slammed his door at the PAPPY DOGS during the last election when the PAPPIES went door to door visiting.
