PETALING JAYA - Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad warned that Malaysia would soon be overtaken by its poorer neighbours because its people expect handouts rather than work hard.
He said many Malaysians have become dependent on financial handouts such as the 1Malaysia People's Aid (BR1M) under the previous Barisan Nasional administration.

"We bring in foreign workers to do the jobs Malaysians do not want to do.

"The government collects taxes and levies from these foreign workers only to give to these Malaysians who think they have disabilities as financial assistance," he was quoted saying by The Malaysian Insight on Sunday (Nov 25).

Dr Mahathir predicted that fellow South-East Asian country Vietnam, which had been ravaged by war, would soon overtake Malaysia in the economic ranking because they have a lot of hardworking people.
"Vietnam will pull ahead of Malaysia because its people are very diligent.
"In Malaysia, people don't want to work because the government gives them money," the news portal reported.
The Prime Minister said this in his address at the opening ceremony of Dash Resort in Langkawi on Sunday (Nov 25).
Earlier in his address, Dr Mahathir also said the government should not be doing any commercial activities and should leave "the business of doing business" to the private sector.
He was quoted by TMI saying that the primary duty of the government is to pass laws and enforce them.
"The government has no expertise to do business and we will lose money.
"The private sector knows better how to make money. They have the ideas," Dr Mahathir added.
He said that the government would not make it difficult for entrepreneurs to do business because at the end of the day, "we (the government) will get 36 per cent of what you make".
"That's why we want people to be successful in business. We do not invest a single sen but we get 36 per cent in return."

calls for revival of great Islamic civilisation...all mudslimes will now get a hard on...
Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad on Thursday spoke of the need for Muslim countries like Malaysia, Turkey and Pakistan to pool their resources to make the Islamic civilisation great again. Speaking at a joint press conference after talks with Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara, Dr Mahathir said the Muslim world today was in a state of turmoil with nothing really substantial being done to tackle the situation.

Only if it worked, then Sri Lanka would have been more developed than Ang Mor Switzerland and Sweden.

And Panama would be ahead of Liechtenstein and Monaco.

And Iran would not have to suffer when oil exports are banned.

Not a bad initiative at all.

Pakis need to pass their ballistic missile and nuclear bomb tech to Turkey and Malaysia.

Malaysia can help Turks and Pakistanis with semiconductor tech from Silterra, let's say and set up auto plants from Proton Perodua or Protiga??

Proton to Setup Auto Manufacturing Plant in Karachi

The Malaysian auto manufacturer, Proton, has partnered with Alhaj Automotive to set up company’s first South Asian factory in Pakistan.
According to Malaysia’s High Commissioner to Pakistan Ikram Mohammad Ibrahim, an agreement was inked by Proton and Al-Haj Automotive in 2018.

Proton felt the potential for its cars in Pakistan is huge, which led to its partnership with Alhaj Automotive to establish an assembly plant near Karachi in Sindh province.
This is significant because it will be Proton’s first (assembly) plant in South Asia because the population of Pakistan’s population.
Ibrahim further claimed that Proton was Dr. Mahatir Mohamad’s brainchild during his first tenure as the prime minister, which was an important element of bilateral trade and investment relationship between the two countries.
The partnership between Al-Haj Automobile and Proton was held at Proton Motors’ head office in Kuala Lumpur on 29th August 2018.
According to the details of the agreement, Al-Haj Group will exclusively sell and assemble sedans, crossovers, SUVs, electric vehicles and hatchbacks of the Malaysian automaker in the country.
The partnership is expected to bring around $200-$300 million as an investment to Pakistan.
What to Expect?
Al-Haj would bring modern and high-tech vehicles in various categories which includes entry and mid-level sedans, crossovers/sports utility vehicles, multi-purpose vehicle, and hatchbacks.
It is worth pointing out that Proton, set up in 1983, holds a major share in the Malaysian car industry and controls British sports car maker Lotus.
Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad and his Pakistani counterpart Imran Khan are expected to witness the symbolic groundbreaking ceremony of Proton’s plant on Friday.
Dr. Mahathir will begin his three-day official visit to Pakistan today.
According to Ikram, the construction of the car plant was one of the important elements of bilateral trade and investment relationship between the two countries as Proton was Dr. Mahathir’s brainchild during his first tenure as the Prime Minister.
Both leaders, he said, would also have an in-depth discussion on efforts to increase trade relations between the two countries.
Pakistan is Malaysia’s third largest trading partner in South Asia. Ikram said Pakistan is Malaysia’s largest export market in South Asia and the third largest import destination.
“In terms of bilateral trade, Malaysia is Pakistan’s 16th largest trading partner last year,” he said.

Turks are NATO members. They can help develop Malaysian and maybe Pakistani defence standards to NATO standards.

Joint projects for

1. Satellite Launch Vehicles for 1 ton to LEO orbit, maybe ard 400kg to GEO orbit. Not sure abt the payload to GEO orbit, but this SLV project can be a good starting point where all three countries can share the costs, know how and talent for a joint project. This has strategic implications.

2. Satellite development centres, new innovative concepts in small satellites, telecom satellites, GNSS satellites like GPS or Galileo, Glonass etc can be started.

3. Free trade agreements and investment protection agreements can be signed between 3 countries.

4. A joint project for fifth generation fighter jet can be started. Each country could have its own variants like F-35 has three variants, F-35A, F-35B and F-35C for multiple purposes. Customized to each country's needs, climate, projected threat. With commonality in parts, training infrastructure, economy of scale can be exploited. Pilots of one country could go to other countries for joint exercises and even help out if any one country faces a threat.

5. Civilian and military R&D are intertwined by their very nature. Spin offs could be generated from joint R&D by these three countries and more Muslim countries could be gradually invited to the party. These spin offs could generate economic benefits to the peoples of many countries, Muslims and non Muslims even, improve their quality of lives, help restore Muslim countries' prestige and influence on global scale and combat infidel propaganda.

6. Businessmen and investors should be provided greater info on business opportunities and contacts with prominent chambers of commerce and trade/industry in the three countries.

7. On foreign policy, issues of common interest can be dealt with by speaking with a single voice and pursuing a single, coherent, consistent policy.

8. Most importantly, weaker countries like Malaysia that don't have NATO umbrella like Turkey or nuclear weapons like Pakistan need to allow Pakistani and Turkish troops and bases on Malaysian soil, both on Peninsular and East Malaysia. With nuke tech transfer and ballistic missile tech from Pakistan.

9. Malaysia can help with its know how on high tech industry like semiconductors with Silterra, solar photovoltaics http://mpia.org.my/membership/ , automobile companies like Proton, Perodua and Dr M's pet project Perotiga or is it Protiga?.

And other high tech sectors like oil gas equipment, medical devices, flexible electronics, biotech, information technology equipment incl mainframes and servers, space grade (radiation hardened) electronics for aerospace and space programme, precision engineering, offshore & marine engineering, photonics, AI, Cybersecurity, Industry 4.0, Automation, Robotics, Quantum Communications, Quantum computing are areas where Malaysia could explore opportunities in JV, tech transfer, tech development with all 3 countries working together.

NEP only name change, but race quotas same? Politician double talk?

Putrajaya to move away from race-based economic policy
favouring bumiputra: Anwar Ibrahim

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s prime minister-in-waiting Anwar Ibrahim said Friday (Jul 26) that Pakatan Harapan (PH) will steer Malaysia away from race-based economic policies towards a needs-based strategy, in a move that might put an end to decades of preferential treatments given to the bumiputra.

Speaking to reporters after the Malaysian Economic Symposium 2019, the Port Dickson Member of Parliament said affirmative policy, which began as the New Economy Policy (NEP), is “obsolete” and must be removed, Malay Mail reported.

A needs-based policy will replace the race-based approach, he said, while stressing that the bumiputra’s constitutional rights will not be jeopardised.
“The Prime Minister made it very clear that the NEP must be seen different from the special Malay privileges enshrined in the constitution," Mr Anwar was quoted as saying.
He added: “I’m not here to question what has been enshrined in the constitution, including privileges and quota."
“Our understanding after 61 years of independence (is that) we need to create this awareness that all Malaysians should be seen as one community with equal rights and privileges.”

Commentary - Time to relook racial quotas in Malaysia’s pre-university matriculation programme, a Commentary: Pakatan Harapan government will ensure Malays do not misuse assistance: Mahathir

The Parti Keadilan Rakyat president, who heads a parliamentary caucus on reform and governance, said he has been tasked with expediting the preparation for a new economic policy that is not based on race.

He said he is committed to reduce inequality and elevate the position of the poor, as well as to rein in “unbridled capitalism” of advancing conglomerates at the expense of the vast majority.
He stressed that it is not an “Anwar’s programme”, but an effort spearheaded by PH under the leadership of Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Economic Affairs Minister Azmin Ali had said back in March that a new Malay economic policy that prioritised growth and guaranteed equality and shared prosperity would be formulated.

Meanwhile, in his Friday speech, Mr Anwar took aim at the urban elites for demanding that PH abolishes the NEP, while turning a blind eye to poor Malays and bumiputra.
The urban elites included wealthy individuals, business conglomerates as well as economists and analysts, he said, according to the Malaysian Insight.
“The urban elites love to hear about how we want to dismantle affirmative action policies but they don’t want to do anything to deal with the inequality in the country,” he was quoted as saying.
