By segregating society into those who support and those who don't support PAP through dishing out of incentives and disincentives, this is already an act of dividing a nation.(TT admits as much, with his comments about reaching out to those who did not vote for him). Nobody is thus allowed to have any political freedom other than pledging eternal support to PAP. This is despite the fact that no matter what's the political inclinations, each and every Singaporean does his or her duty to the country, such as paying taxes and doing national service.
By promoting policies which don't benefit the average Singaporean but outright perceived to be designed to promote PAP's narrow interests, how can unity be built? The best example is the immigration policies, whereby PAP opens the floodgates and allowed societal divide between the locals and foreigners, which bred inter resentment, all while the PAP bigwigs enjoy the fat revenues and turning a blind eye to these ground issues. Not to forget that instead of upholding the local identity which is crucial for national unity, some PAP bigwigs chose to accuse Singaporeans of being xenophobic. If a ruling party doesn't care a hoot about unity, why expect the people to care?As it stands, there's no unity, unless PAP takes the first bold steps to concede that it has caused this rift in the first place, and takes concrete, corrective actions to restore unity. It's not us the people who wants political divide and confrontational politics. Who started all these in the first place is clear for all to see.
