Before he became Prime Minister, LKY sought to imprint his image as a socialist. The elites of his time were the angmos and for non-elites to get a sniff of political power, the easiest way was through the unions (or working-class political vehicle). His stint in the UK helped him formulate his strategy of gaining political power through the support of the unions he was helping at that time.

Once he consolidated his power, he showed his true colours by muzzling the unions and destroying the bridge after crossing the river so that none would be able to follow his path.

Unfortunately, most Singaporeans are of the peasant class and do not understand politics. They were mostly concerned about the daily tasks of earning an income for survival. With the rise of literacy rates, perhaps it is time the masses will come to understand about the play of power between the different social classes. The easiest and main platform for non-elites to gain political power has been virtually destroyed by LKY and if the peasants remain docile, they should not complain about being a citizen of a country which does not treat them like one.

The reason why your salary is still low. And when you complain about it.

They open the floodgates of FTs in here to dilute your bargaining power.

What is the next step should you do ?

They are the sinkie class lah.. They know something is wrong but no balls to deal with it and only come in here to complain..

They the authorities will always say that workers are lazy !

It is certainly not altruism why a PAP man has to be in charge of NTUC. The benefits to the PAP overshadows their claims of maintaining stability in the country. If they were not in control of the unions, I bet that this party would have long been dead and buried by now.
