The political awakening of Singapore

In just 4 days, Singapore will go to the polls.
As encouraging as all the signs have been, it probably time to do a reality check.

The Opposition is going to the LOSE in many of the contested GRCs and SMCs.

The reason for this is simple demographics. As of 2011, those born before 1965 still number about 50% of the electorate. As such while we might see a crack or 2 in places like Aljunied, we are not going to see a humilating defeat for the PAP.

If you have been to the ralies, you will find that most of the people attending the Opposition rallies are young people or those born after 1965. These entered the workforce in 1990s and have known "no good years" under the PAP. Perhaps the best embodiment of this young spirit yearning for change is Nicole Seah.

While the much yearned for change will probably not come this election, all is not lost. This is because by 2017, the P65 will make up over 75% of the electorate. The political awakening of the P65 generation has been phenomenal. The anger, frustration and disappointment which has been voiced out so far is just the tip of the iceberg. With no more pre-65 to hold them back, there is a good chance the PAP will literally be swept from power in 2017.

During the failed YOG held last year, the PAP tried to "manufacture" the Singapore spirit. They spent $387 mil and came up with jack squat. During the YOG, one of the most inspirational clip to emerge is the following Youtube which embodies a Singapore spirit that has been lying sleeping in many of us. This spirit has been re-awakened and the PAP should be very afraid for its days are numbered.

Why show the M-Cup video clip? As far as I know, Sinkies are fair-weathered fans. Where were the "fans" during the leaner years before 1994?
