Responsibility for the increasing redundancy is attributed to ongoing economic restructuring in S'pore. Since economic restructuring refers to the phenomenon of urban areas shifting from a manufacturing to a service sector economic base, which directly affects employment, then why is the likelihood of redundancy among professionals, managers and executives higher than for blue collar construction, production and related workers? PMEs account for more than 50% of the layoffs in S'pore.
