Opposition unity does not necessarily mean avoiding 3CFs. A better way is to co-broke.
The leaders of each opposition party should step out and form a dream team for a GRC. That will signal to the electorate that it's PAP vs Singapore this coming election.
I hope Kenneth Jeyaretnam will stand at Tanjong Pagar GRC because his father was the MP for the then Anson SMC. Jeyaretnam is still a brand name among older Singaporeans.
Kenneth should be joined by Tan Jee Say. Many Singaporeans, especially those middle ground voters who are accustomed to voting for PAP candidates because they think Opposition candidates lack academic and career credentials, will find Tan Jee Say acceptable.
We need a strong Chinese speaker to appeal to the Ah Pek and aunties. At the moment, there is no better one than Goh Meng Seng. He will provide a good balance to the mainly English-speaking candidates so far, especially the next one - Dr Chee Soon Juan.
Dr Chee will not win a SMC on his own. His only chance is a GRC where people who like him will vote for him regardless, and people who still believe the character assassination will vote for other opposition candidates in the dream team.
So far we have 4 fiery speakers in Parliament. We need one more. This is where I hope WP can be more accommodating and give Opposition a chance. We need to capitalize on WP brand name, and people who don't like new faces, new parties, will nevertheless vote for WP. Getting a WP NCMP to fill in the last slot will be good, but they are too entrenched in the constituencies that they participated in the last GE. We now need to soften this "fiery speakers" image, so it will be good to get a lady from WP to fill in the slot. WP has nothing to lose since they have said they don't want to contest in Tanjong Pagar. If the Dream Team wins, it's another MP seat for WP.
