of course they were groomed from young to repeat these statements,that whatever they do is best for the country,they only have Singapore at heart,and integrity,honesty,non corruptibility and meritocracy is the backbone of the umbrella of this society.....but meanwhile their parents Con yew and gecko are showing them conflicting actions,that leegalised corruption,hidden greed,fake virtuosity, fearmongering,elitism is perfectly alright,now to a grown matured adult,steeped in Buddhism morals and confucianism ethics and communist grace,this is clearly wrong,but to the young child's mind which is extremely impressionable,soft,mallaeble,they quick learn to adapt and accept both drastic ends of reality and internalize the conflict.which is why the cognitive dissonance is so high in arse loong.he has managed to justify acts of evil as ......in his own mind.

You got most of it right, except that there is probably some delusion on the part of the parents as well. No human being is totally good or bad, and it would be more logical to think that Old Man for the most part, really believed that he was doing a great service for the country.
