The Non-obvious Impact of Spoiled Votes: Applicable to PE and GE

Many don't realised this but when they choose to spoil or void their vote, there is actually an impact, ie. allowing those in the lead to be the winner.

Case in point: For the coming PE, if you really dislike PAP and since all 3 have past association with the PAP, therefore you choose to spoil your vote.

The impact of your spoilt vote is such that you have just indirectly voted for the one in the lead. For example, if A=TKL, B=TCB and C=TT, by spoiling your vote, the percentage of votes for TT remains unchanged. As such, TT and fans thank-you for that.

Voters spoil votes when they are not interested which candidate wins, but wants to sent a message of disapproval of all candidates.

What if only 50% votes are valid and in the ratio as in your example for all candidates. It is telling that the other 50% do not support any of them or the system of eligibility for candidates.

The argument is flawed, unless someone can prove that spoil votes are always derived from possibly the loser.

If I don't like the candidate who loses either, I will be glad the spoil votes do not make the losing candidate end up winning.

There were people who supported the PAP but did not like candidates like Tin, Mah etc., so they cast spoil votes.

What if the spoil votes were not spoil votes and the winner wins by an even wider margin? Then you have created one ultra arrogant President or MP.
