opportunity to connect underground access to mrt station when station was under construction was there but missed either for cost or construction cum design reasons. stupid decision.

if it’s a capitaland mall its access would be integrated with the mrt station on day one of launch of station. but because it’s not, it’s they die their own biz.I was there today. There are some new and upcoming tuition schools inside the MRT station (more like glorified underpass) leading towards Exit 6, which leads to Blk 74 some distance away from the mall. Tiongs' Jiang Education Centre and Playfacto among them.
That's the whole idea of these newer MRT stations: they serve as underpass+retail space, and replace the existing overhead bridges. So clever.![]()
After my site visit to The Anchor @ Marine Parade (where the MRT tunnel is), a social service and community hub we are setting up to help vulnerable residents, I went to Marine Parade Central to buy durians and some other fruits. My SG60 vouchers paid for them. Thank you, SG. --- gct
The MRT should provide underground access from various buildings to as many stations as possible.opportunity to connect underground access to mrt station when station was under construction was there but missed either for cost or construction cum design reasons. stupid decision.

no. 10 from pasir panjang along west coast highway to yeast coast rd opposite roxy square near brooke rd. no direct bus. no ecp. have to walk from yeast coast rd to parkway parade on marine parade rd thru’ roxy square.Got direct bus from West Coast to Parkway Parade .... ECP all the way ?
they had the same issue with the tang building at orchard station 30-40 years ago. both sides quibble over cost and responsibility. finally after decades a tunnel was built, but it was not air-conditioned. the ion addition helped to integrate the entire underground access and retail shopping more smoothly and with ac. who owns and runs the ion mall? no need to guess. The MRT should provide underground access from various buildings to as many stations as possible.
Look at downtown Montreal and down town Toronto
mrt passengers going to the parkway mall have to exit on the hawker center side, then go to road level, wait at crossing for pedestrian light, cross with construction obstacles and barriers in the way. on weekends it’s a fucking mess with both pedestrian and vehicle traffic.Parkway is very popular with those living in the east. It’s always crowded during weekends and the jams are fucked up. Now they added extra traffic lights for pedestrian crossing making it even worse

This was from the 1980s. When Yaohan was still around.
The problem is it’s was never meant for increased crowd and all the integration with mrt is all afterthought. The 3 tiny hdb carparks are inadequately useless. Now they add on imall. They widen the roads but also no use come peak period. You cant walk properly at the central coz it’s so small with the hdb shops extending their area, kiosks in the middle and they still have pasar malam regularly. clusterfuck complex is a more appropriate name. moreover the bus stop across has numerous pillars blocking the view of oncoming buses for passengers. one fuck up after another. The problem is it’s was never meant for increased crowd and all the integration with mrt is all afterthought.
