The New Law, the Pimp, the Girl & Hotel 81

What a week!. It laid bare the turmoil that many associated with the case of the under aged girl must have undergone. I am sure their families must have suffered for last 4 months and many will continue to suffer. Promising careers dashed, livelihoods gone, lifestyles changed and friends and acquaintances lost. Maybe shunned forever. Some may not recover.

Here are some thoughts

The Law - 4 years ago, the law in question did not exist and no one who have charged. The law only kicked if it involved a girl who was below 16. Interestingly 2 people had a direct impact on this piece of legislation coming to life - Gerrie Lim and Paul Theroux. The law understand was adopted from Canada. It was part of the drive the bring sexual tourism which became rife in the 1990s with Cambodia, the Philippines and Indonesia taking front and centre. Our local chaps started heading to Bintan and Batam and with cheap flights to Philippines that too became a well worn trail.

I wonder if the Govt when the new law came into force, had conducted sufficient awareness, education and communication so that they would not lost so many good men at one go.

The Pimp - Frankly, they should be put away this guy for a long, long time.

The Girl - Not sure why and how she ended up in the trade. Not sure if are talking about LV, Iphone and clubbing or to make ends meet. But we should be not encouraging this sort of activities at this age. You can never close down the trade but you can protect the vulnerable.

Hotel 81 - this is the part that I can never understand. This is where the PAP has to understand they are culpable just as the pimp is. Anyone including a moron knows that Hotel 81 and Fragrance Hotel exist and succeed for one purpose - the sex trade. It is transit hotel. I thought it was bit rich and quite suspicious that in the same week that the 48 men were charged, the owner of Hotel 81 decides to donate $2M to NTU. When the PAP were in power in the early years it was common for corporate biggies caught for tax evasion and other transgression of minor laws were asked to donate a sizable sum. It was not corruption but it was done to keep the vulnerable economy going.

Last year or so, the owner of a small hotel somewhere in Upp Serangoon was brought to task (was he charged or just licence kantong?) for allowing the plying of prostitution at his hotel. I was like hey do the authorities actually expect tourists to be staying in a hotel in upp serangoon area? Why allow a hotel in an area like upp serangoon and expect it to be doing only tourist business? Things are quite messy in S'pore these days.

In this case, the men were fully aware. They paid double to tripple the market rate because she was unripe. The website gives clues as to why some paid so much more. Among other things, she was offering anal sex.

The girl and pimp are not without culpability here. The website clearly states that she is 18 years old. To be fair, I think some of the men paid the premium rate for the pleasure of giving anal sex and not because she was a minor. Besides, how many men just before they engage in a fucking session will ask the prostitute, "Excuse me, may I see your NRIC? I need to make sure you're over the age of consent before you take it up the ass."

Not many I suspect.

As far as I know, our local poodles in SPF are overwhelmed by the various changes in the flesh trade - there is a reason why Singapore made it into the list of human trafficking hubs as collated by the US State Department a few years back and I was fairly amused when the .gov.sg had to come out to refute the allegations using weasel words. I had colleagues from PRC who would snigger and say that at least half of their female compatriots in Singapore were probably moonlighting in the flesh trade while studying in those private schools. It has reached a state where even the nominally very sheltered heartland Singaporean auntie who is not aware what is the term "social escort" became superficially aware of this new undercurrent but it is the classic Emperor's New Clothes scenario, since there is no event/person which acts like that little boy, there is no public outcry.

I am sure the SPH and Mediacorp people are working overtime to spin this correctly, so that there will be no little boy event.

Value added service. Isn't this what all businesses strive to achieve? Product differentiation.

I speculate this case runs deeper than what an average Joe knows. Not so much because the girlie is underage. That is a red herring. But the list of clients....from a school principal to a police superintendent

Now ask yourself, how many men going to this sort of joint will leave a trail?Especially where an under-aged girl is involved. But this case did.More than 80 of them and that is the specialty.

Hence my speculation. It looks like a revenge spree.Given that two top cops are under investigation for sex for favors;this case tells the populace that every clean shaven men wearing a suit will do the same given a chance. That is the message. But who initiated this,I still wonder.Whether for a political angle or a pure police force thingy is subjective. But this case has all the hallmarks of a PAP spin doctoring.

Adding another interesting point.Even if the police lines up 80 of these men who had sex with the girlie she would trouble identifying them. But the police claims accuracy.Perhaps based on the record kept by the pimp or the recording of the CCTV in hotel 81.Which begets the question who keeps such details and for what purpose?Even if one's name and phone number appears in pimps record it's still not easy to prove beyond reasonable ground that the client slept with this girlie and not another prostitute.....unless the whole episode was recorded. And if it was recorded than it is an entrapment.I suspect this to have happened. Why?

Because all these 80 men has the means to challenge this case.....only a recording could silence them to submission.

I fully agree with you. If it is not because she is a "minor" the price won't be that high, even for ascort.

Robot prostitutes 'the future of sex tourism'

SEX TOURISM: Are sex robots the future, like in Steven Spielberg's AI Artificial Intelligence?
The future of sex tourism lies in robot prostitutes, two New Zealand researchers have theorised.

Management professor Ian Yeoman, a futurist with an interest in tourism, and sexologist Michelle Mars from Victoria University in Wellington, New Zealand, have looked to how red light districts might operate in the year 2050.

The futuristic scenario of sex tourism suggests android prostitutes will reign supreme, eliminating the risk of contracting sexually transmitted infections in an industry free from sex slavery.

Advertisement: Story continues below
Their paper: Robots, Men And Sex Tourism, published in the journal Futures, imagines a sex club in Amsterdam named Yub-Yum.

Sexual tourists will pay about 10,000 Euro ($12,672) for an all-inclusive service from massages and lap dances to intercourse from the scantily-clad sexbots parading around.

In an increasingly youth and beauty-fixated society, Yub-yum would provide a range "of sexual gods and goddesses of different ethnicities, body shapes, ages, languages and sexual features".

Yub-yum would be staffed by androids and licensed by the council meaning it could be regulated and used to market the city as a sex tourism destination.

"Amsterdam's tourist industry is built on an image of sex and drugs. The council was worried that if the red light district were to close, it would have a detrimental effect on the city's brand and tourism industry."

The androids would be made of bacteria resistant fibre and would be flushed for human fluids, therefore guaranteeing no STIs are transferred between consumers.

Clients could feel guilt free as they actually have not had sex with a real person and would not have to lie to their partner.

"Robot sex is safer sex, free from the constraints, precautions and uncertainties of the real deal."

'Pimp told me girl was over 18'
Man claims he was told prostitute old enough for commercial sex
By Arul John

April 30, 2009

AWARE: Rodney Sim said he knew about the law regarding paid sex with a person aged below 18. ST FILE PICTURE

HE CLAIMED he asked the prostitute and her pimp if she was 18 - the legal age to offer sex for money.

Rodney Sim Hang Nge, 61, told the court yesterday that the pimp and the girl confirmed that.

He asked the pimp that question as he was aware it was a crime to engage in paid sex with a person under the age of 18.

The law came into effect in February last year.

Sim, a senior accountant and father of two, told District Judge Jeffrey Sim: 'That question (about her age) is as sure as the sun rises in the east because it was only two sentences in Mandarin.'

But the pimp, Wang Minjiang, 37, said he told Sim that the girl was only 17.

On 15 Dec last year, Sim pleaded guilty to having sex with the girl twice - 3 Aug and 5 Aug last year - when she was only 16 years old.

We are not identifying her as she is a minor.

Sim's lawyer, Mr Shashi Nathan, had already prepared and submitted his client's mitigation plea and he was supposed to be sentenced yesterday.

But there was a dispute over some facts in the mitigation plea, including that concerning Sim's queries about the prostitute's age, and a Newton hearing was held yesterday instead. This is a hearing held to resolve disputed points in a case and ascertain the correct basis for sentencing.

Wang was earlier sentenced to a year's jail for arranging the girl to have sex with Sim and another man, Tan Chye Hin.

Wang, who was brought in as a witness, said that at about 7pm on 3 Aug last year, he, the girl and another woman were at a coffee shop in Geylang when they met Sim there.

When Sim then asked their ages, Wang said he told him the girl was 17 and the woman was 19, which he claimed were the ages indicated on their passports.

He denied telling Sim that the girl was over 18.

But Sim said he asked Wang in Mandarin if he knew about the law prohibiting any girl below 18 from 'working' (a slang for prostitution).

He said: 'He told me 'Don't worry. I know Singapore law and my girl is above 18.'

No passport with her

While on the way to a hotel in Joo Chiat that day, Sim asked the girl if she had her passport with her. The girl said 'no'.

He then asked her how old she was. She told him she was 18. He said he considered Wang's assurance as well as the girl's word that she was 18 to be important facts.

Sim said: 'All my life, I'm a law-abiding citizen and it is my duty... to ensure that I don't do anything against the law.'

The hearing was adjourned to 24 Jun.

For having paid sex with a girl under 18, Sim could be fined, jailed up to seven years, or face both punishments.

Last December, Tan was sentenced to a year's jail. On appeal, his jail term was reduced to nine months on 20 Feb.

Some of Sim's family members who attended the hearing declined to speak to The New Paper.

The Pimp - Frankly, they should be put away this guy for a long, long time.

The case establishes how critical the okt is in securing convictions. Because of the deal he cut, I think he will get off lightly ... maybe a year or so.
Other okts in the business should take note and maintain meticulous records.
If you get caught, you can use these to get a sweet deal with AGC.

Actually you can make her day by asking for her IC when you already know the lady is confirmed twenty plus.

I disagree. 500 dollars per shot is not considered unusual if the girl is a Singaporean. If you call up the escort agencies listed in the Yellow pages, that's the quotation you will get. I don't understand why myself, despite chatting with members on the other Sammyboy forum for years, but that's the way things are. Some OKTs do charge that much for the pleasure of bonking a Singaporean or Ang Moh girl (who can speak English). High price does not necessary mean underage.

Yeah, may work. But hookers really DON'T LIKE to reveal personal information about themselves to their clients for all kinds of reasons. If she doesn't want to, then you also lan-lan. It will just make the whole situation very embarrassing...

It is one thing to penalise paying customers of underaged pros..

The most striking issue about this case is the naming and shaming of those accused. If proven guilty, they will serve the time. Do the press and the judiciary system need to ruin their lives like that??
