Dear Ladies and Gentlemen

I am disappointed that none of the parties made an attempt to engage the PAP Government or raise this as a concern knowing full well the contents of the post in Facebook by this young Singaporean. The exception was the youth wing of the SDP.

The statement posted by Malik in the mind of a reasonable person cannot be taken to mean the call to, or even suggest any violence by any stretch of the imagination. Here are the main issues that are of concern
  1. Who deemed it an attempt to incite violence?
  2. Why was he arrested rather than seek an explanation or conduct an investigation?
  3. Why was he arrested at the workplace and not at home or was asked to surrender. Who deemed him a flight risk?
  4. Did the authorities realise that an arrest at the workplace could destroy his career or embarrass him?
  5. Who ordered "community leaders" to speak to his family?
  6. Why did the local press did not carry the full post and therefore not giving it the right context? Who ordered the press to do this or is this a repeat of the 2006 GE when they corrected the PM's speech to curry favours.
  7. Who released his criminal antecedents which are not relevant to this case and should be confidential?
  8. Who ordered his arrest?

If Singapore opposition parties can't even be bothered to question the manner this young Singaporean was treated, why even bother to contest the elections. We certainly don't need your help to run the economy or design the transport needs of this country. What then are you guys fighting for? It will be good to hear from the various parties why they did not think to lift a finger? Could the reasons be the following
  1. He is a Malay and we only look after majority
  2. He is not an identity and he did not write a book or condemn the govt before?
  3. He has a criminal record and therefore has lost his privileges.
  4. You actually feel that there is a shred of evidence that he was suggesting violence.

Only the powerless would engage in activism.

you mean he didnt meant what he wrote.
then can we say that he is not a man of his word, a true politician

His family was pressured. There is absolutely no case to answer. It just threw the complaints and petition about the poor planning and the overall failure of the YOG out of focus.

I thought I read SDP (YD) got in touch with Malik? I suppose that is why Malik is joining SDP.

Can add in a 4. We suspect it may be a trap and we are all ballsless in case we become the lightning rod, get jailed and miss the GE.

I wrote this when I found out that the arrest was ordered by the top and not something done by some bumbling idiot from the Police Force who sense of initiative was misguided. This case has also got the attention of the legal profession who cannot find a prima facie in this mess. It seems they were hoping that the case would go to court, because it will be thrown in double quick time. There is no iota of evidence for a establishment judge or magistrate to convict or else they will look like a clown.

Who wrote this letter?

Goh Meng Seng?

Uncle Yap?

Hopefully it will get thrown out but with our Kangaroo courts, I have no confidence in that :(

Then you should engage the PAP urself, why asked other ppl to do the dirty jobs and shake leg at 1 corner? Which may cause the oppositions to loss votes if they do not handle this case properly.

Credit to the youth wing of SDP for coming out early. This is a golden opportunity for all of opposition to clamour for answers. This is a clear abuse of power and authority.

Why was he arrested at his workplace? Who released his confidential criminal antecedents to the press? Who asked the community leaders to pressure the family.

We send a clown to Cambridge, UK at state expenses and he allowed this kind of abuse to take place under his watch.

I did not raise my hand. You surely must be an imbecile to approach a sugar seller to buy a packet of chicken rice if the sugar seller comments that chicken rice should be served with thinly sliced cucumber.

This is a slam dunk case where one idiot up there thought he could abuse his power. Even an opposition candidate with half a brain cannot get his wrong. There is no votes to be lost.

Opposition parties have raised their hands to protect this country and its citizens. If they can't do it, why the fuck are they there.

I think he was right in asking the political parties to take a stand. He is an individual, in this instance, the political parties should act first.

And of course, if the political parties don't do anything, there is no reason for the political party to continue to exist in Singapore.

Typically judges and magistrates will find a sliver of evidence to convict is there is pressure so that they do not look like idiots or prostitutes in front of their families and their professional colleagues.

In this case, there is none. That is why they pressured his family as they had not other way out without looking like clowns.

I only cam to know this a day ago. It also explains why Viv B distanced himself by making the statement. People were asking questions and everyone was wondering who made the call or the complaint. The Police Force is also not happy for being used in this manner. That is why MHA had to reply.

The latest that I heard is that some members of the cabinet are not happy because they all look like dills. There is also lot of unhappiness amongst he Malay community for the role played by some of their clowns.

Hopefully it will get thrown out but with our Kangaroo courts, I have no confidence in that :(

When the PAP MP for Jalan Besar who was subsequently convicted for cheating, made a racist comment in parliament about Indians, Chiam shot out of his chair and castigated the prick.

The Indian community was so incensed by the attitude of the Indian PAP MPs including their annointed leader Jayakumar for sitting on his butt that they raised it very quickly thru the channels.

Eventually GCT had to explain that Jayakumar tried to intervene but Chiam was faster. They then hanged out the idiot MP to dry and the leash on the press was released. The press then went to reveal how this MP had no manners and yells at people at golf courses etc. It was PAP trying to clean out the mess they created.

Good one. My understanding is that Low has squarely fallen into that trap after the WP CEC was nearly made bankrupt. That is why he banned his members from engaging in the internet not realising that it basically kneecapped the party in using the potent web.

He even does it in parliament. Maybe he waiting for something massive for PAP to do wrongly before he does something meaningful.

Can add in a 4. We suspect it may be a trap and we are all ballsless in case we become the lightning rod, get jailed and miss the GE.

No. It is not clear to me which came 1st -- his assoc with SDP, or his arrest.

Furthermore, it was SDP youth who spoke out for Malik. SDP leaders kept silent.

You're a typical FAKE opposition supporter. Or should I say STUPID. When i wrote my piece comparing genuine verses fake supporters I felt like mentioning your nick but left it out as I had only your nick in mind. What a pity.

Stop sowing discord and pretending to be an RP supporter. Bet you don't know jack shit about what they stand for.

SDP youth is still part of SDP, isn't it? They would probably have got the consent and approval of the SDP leaders before coming out.

It's right that the opposition parties should address this matter, since they are formed with the supposed intention of representing an alternative to the ruling party for Singaporeans.
But SDP leaders could be keeping silent because of their own personal history in similar cases, and they may not want to make the situation worse, hence letting their younger members speak out in this case.

Good points.

However open letters to closed minds will not men of courage make.

"We certainly don't need your help to run the economy or design the transport needs of this country. What then are you guys fighting for?" is worthy of a long analysis - "The Opposition - what you get when you voted for them - 20 long years of facts & fantasies." Countermanding this is "The PAP - what will happen if you endorse their policies with your vote." Put the two together and I may well too join in open letters except that I no longer believe that the myraid oppositions have any value or the PAP will care after the elections.

You need to take the good with the bad and live with the PAP. Maybe we can say goodbye to the likes of LTK and CST (no favouritism meant for the others, just in fairness they did not yet have the opportunity to prove the level of their worth)

As for Malik, I hope the PAP reading this will ponder if they had overreacted and let Malik go with a slight warning WITHOUT the need for oppositions to work up their courage. This will tell us that they can self-govern. Today, PAP's insight into themselves is a more plausible safeguard for our welfare.
