Iodine is an important substance when it comes to cancer prevention. Iodine treatment has been used to help with a lot of different health problems including breast cancer, thyroid issues and even syphilis over the years. Iodine can be eaten as seaweed and in some instances is added to breads. This problem began because back in 1948 it was believed to be dangerous and removed from medicines and food.
Harmful chemicals
When it was thought that iodine was a harmful substance it was removed from bread and an iodine-blocking element called bromine was added to flour, our mattresses to make them more fireproof, to our clothes and many other products. Other harmful chemicals such as pesticides and food additives were added to our foods. These interfere further with iodine absorption making deficiencies worse. Xenoestrogens are chemical oestrogens found in personal and home care products as well as in air pollution which poison the body and add to hormone imbalances.
Realising its importance at a later date scientific studies agreed it was safe to be ingested in small amounts and remain in such substances as iodized salt. However it still remained out of our diet since we were told to reduce sodium intake due to its impact on blood pressure and heart disease so many people did not get even the iron that was added to the salt either. Salt also evaporates with moisture, storage, and exposure to oxygen making the ingestion of iodine minimal. Another factor to consider is that when iodine is added to salt, including potassium iodide, it includes an anti-caking agent, which a healthy option.
