UNHAPPY with the long shift hours in her previous retail position, Madam Serene Lim, 60, decided to quit her job last year and make do with part-time jobs. 'I worked 10 hours a day,' said the mother of two grown children, who also has a grandson. Reprieve, however, came yesterday when she landed a full-time job with better hours after attending the Chinese Development Assistance Council's (CDAC) Jobs For Seniors job fair - which was tailored specifically for those aged above 50.

'It was easier for me to find a job in this fair; there were many options for me to choose from,' said Madam Lim, who will start her new sales assistant job next month, and was among 102 successful candidates who were offered a job on the spot. The fair, which was held for only the second time, featured more than 1,300 jobs offered by the 25 participating companies. Held at Bishan Community Club, it attracted more than 750 job seekers. It comes in the wake of a slew of steps taken to encourage older workers to stay in the workforce. Read the full story in Wednesday's edition of The Straits Times.

Wow that ah pek looks damn desperate to land a job. But knowing PAPpies chao kuan, they will say ah pek should go for retraining to build up knowledge, learn to accept lower wage and finally throw him a toilet cleaner job.
