The ability to earn a good salary lies with the individual not with the government. Nobody should be guaranteed a comfortable salary. It would make a mockery of any system if you could be paid a king's ransom for doing a routine job which requires no skills.

As for business success it has nothing to do with being fortunate. Success comes from hard work and perseverance.

Than why do Countries have a minimum wage structure and strong Unions to protect
their own country workers from foreign labour. Here, Sinkies like asking to do welding
without the eye shield, now Sinkies are all Poor and Blind.

Then all taxes should be abolished and we move to a purely pay per use system. If businesses enjoy the stability provided by defense (SAF for example) then they should foot the bill accordingly.

It is time to re-work the social contract between citizens and the state.

I am all for a user pay system. I support it 100%.

However with regards to the benefits of stability it isn't just confined to businesses. Everyone benefits. For example, when I bought property in 1979 for $64,000 and sold it in 1993 for $1.7 million, it was thanks to the secure and safe environment created and maintained by the foresight of Mr Lee. For that I will be forever grateful to him.

i agree relying on one set of parents alone is a big mistake in the modern nuclear family unit.......there are many parents out there who are fucked up and take no interest in raising their kids and parenting them......

in the past families were huge and extended under one roof which means kids had access to their uncles and aunts and grandparents.....all adults shared responsibility of raising one another's children and imparted different values and knowledge sets,which means kids had exposure to adults other than their own father and mother and had a bigger emotional and psychological support,and could consult different ideas and mindsets since they had access to many adults and not just their parents.

also it reduces the psychological and emotional damage when a child is exposed to bad or abusive parents,since they had others to rely on.

The governments of many countries have no choice but to implement a minimum wage and allow unions to operate because they have to capture the middle ground in order to win elections. It does not mean that minimum wages and union activism is going any good for the country. In fact it does a lot of harm and causes high unemployment.

A good example in new zealand is the destruction of Fisher & Paykel as an iconic NZ company. It used to employ thousands of Kiwis all over the country and many subcontractors were earning a good living supporting the manufacturing activity.

However, when the Clarke labour government gained power in 1999, they proceeded to change the laws which jacked up the minimum wage to ridiculous levels while reducing productivity with various other stupid policies. They did this because they were beholden to the unions.

As a result Fisher and Paykel had no choice but to move more and more activities offshore where overheads were far lower. However, this only postponed the inevitable and in the end, the Chinese company Haier bought over the whole company and closed down all manufacturing in NZ.

if watson has a gross profit margin of 12% that means out of 100 million revenues generated 12 million is profit,in order to generate a similar 7 million in tax revenue,we would have to tax watson up to 60% of their gross profit....that is 60% corporate tax.

I don't know what sort of tax environment you operate in but I own a GST registered company in NZ and I pay GST on all my company purchases.

The company collapsed because it could not compete with other whiteware manufacturers who manufactured in environments with far lower overheads.

If the Singapore government imposed a minimum wage, the same thing would happen to Singapore and things would end up worse not better.

That's just interim cashflow out on trade purchases, you get same back from taxman (as input tax). As for your sales part, you only collect from customers (output tax) to pay to taxman. GST in essence is consumption tax. Think we borrowed NZ model on implementation back in 1990's
