For the price of a McDonald's Extra Value Meal, sink your canines into, inter alia, one serious clod of grilled/fried chicken or fish (plus significant sides, even so) at ingenuously named ultra-budget western food hawker chain $5 Western - where no single offering shall set you back by more than a green Yusof Ishak. Hot diggity dog.​

The seemingly harum-scarum amigos behind it? Jason Koh and Jeffrey Ang, both in their mid-thirties, eager beaver to exorcise demons of an F&B outing (some Shenton Way-based halal chicken rice dingenskirchen) previously essayed together during COVID-19's peak that, unsurprisingly, came asunder within months. This time around, they are wildcatting on (obviously self-imposed) restricted unit margins per se to attract and perhaps skyrocket turnover. Well, good luck, then.

First began 2 June 2023, $5 Western right now has four locations in Boon Keng, Hougang, Clementi, Woodlands. Forewarning though: neither pork nor beef is sold.
