so much has been said about the various types of education systems around the world and how Finland's model seemed a stronger one than Singapore's model, this led to a fair bit of thinking on my part and here's a suggestion.

take the Cambrian explosion for example, seemed as though there was a sudden increase in the number of species of organisms that lived around that time. would it then be possible that other educational models be allowed to grow and flourish in Singapore, i.e. the provision of more private schools to take root in our education landscape, thus increasing the competition for a better working model.

the working models would flourish and the non-working models would die off. sounds crazy in every sense of the word, competition will then in turn drive up the standards of the education system to better suit our evolving needs. re-education is always possible by allowing re-entry of any students into any of the private or MOE-based schools.

what do you think?

I should have thought being bored stiff three quarters of the time is excellent preparation for working life …

It will be a big mistake to allow 'private education' to flourish and grow taking resources from our public school system as only the rich can afford private education. The same thing that happened to our hospitals will happen to our schools if we do not concentrate resources in public education to make it as good as possible.

Just look at our hospitals - the growing gulf in quality of care between private and public....not to mention the cost spirals as doctors move to the more lucrative private practice. It will be 'game over' if we let this happen to our schools. Already the big monster in the form of the tuition industry is strangling our education system with high number of good teachers moving into the tuition industry.

Private schools cater mostly and firstly to the lucrative foreign students sector. Most locals prefer their children to be schooled in the MOE schools first, then abroad if they are rich and the children cannot get in. Private schools are the last resort. Anyway, if private schools rely only on locals, they will die in no time.

This is why the private schools had a heyday when the immigration policy ran wild. Every private school was flooded with students who are PRC, India national, Pinoy, Korean, Myanmese, Vietnamese etc on student pass. They are people who dont go back and were in fact enticed by our very own govt to stay back, look for a job, and then given PR.

Is this what you want?

When it comes to state funded education I think only one system will be allowed in Singapore. The Finland model is good, but I doubt our govt will buy it or allow it to run parallel.

the death of education is on the way in and replaced with online internet schooling. real job is replaced by automation even can find it in war with drone planes replacing real fighter pilots.

time to pray 5 times a day and leave it to God than study for fuck right?

Are you Kishore Mahbubani? becos only he will come up with such wacky ideas.

If you are indeed Kishore M., I assure you of my support. Please have your friends in the education ministry to implement your ideas right away.

heavens forbid! do i sound like an Indian to you?

Yahweh be praised!

I have nothing against Indians, Ah Nehs, Ah Tiongs, Sinkies, whomsoever.....

I just pity the so-called Dean of LKY Pubic School who can only BARK when his master allows him to.
