The best spoof movies of all time

Serious cinema is all well and good, but there are moments when only a truly funny movie will do. And successful spoofs are right up there with the funniest films of all time. Poking fun at everything from outer space blockbusters to zombie flicks and spy dramas, these parody movies don't take themselves, or their subject matter, in the least bit seriously.

'Hot Fuzz' (2007)

Starring superstar spoof double act Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, this witty British drama pokes fun at the buddy cop movie genre. Pegg's relocated London cop has to adapt to life in a small town, as well as to working with his oafish new partner in solving crime. But things are about to get grisly in the 'sleepy' town of Sandford.

'Shaun Of The Dead' (2004)

The pair teamed up again for 'Shaun of the Dead,' a laugh-out-loud parody on zombie movies.

Pegg plays the titular Shaun, a 30-year-old who refuses to act his age. But when zombies attack London, Shaun and his lazy housemate Ed (Frost) have to summon up serious monster-fighting skills.

Singaporean Gary Ow directed & produced a Singaporean parody of this UK parody movie, and called it "Hsien of the dead" named in honour of LHL!

'Enchanted' (2007)

Disney both celebrates and pokes gentle fun at its own happy-ever-after movies in this family-friendly spoof. Amy Adams stars as a princess from an animated kingdom, who abruptly finds herself emerging from a manhole into the harsh realties of real life in Manhattan.

'Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan' (2006)

The movie that made Sacha Baron Cohen a household name, this masterpiece in cringe comedy sees Kazakh TV journalist Borat head to the United States, where he will stop at nothing to track down his long-standing crush, Pamela Anderson.

'Borat Subsequent Moviefilm' (2020)

Lampooning American culture, politics, and more, the movie sees Borat tackling weighty issues, including COVID-19, with his usual lack of self-awareness.

'Galaxy Quest' (1999)

Starring Sigourney Weaver, this is a razor-sharp comedy that sees the former stars of a 1970s sci-fi show beamed onto a spacecraft by a band of aliens who have mistaken their TV exploits for real-life adventures.

'The Naked Gun' (1988)

Leslie Nielsen is a king of spoof comedy, and in this first outing in the 'Naked Gun' trilogy he's on hilariously fine form as a clueless police detective trying to unravel a complex mind-control plot.

The Naked Guns series started from this. You really have to pay close attention or you will miss the jokes.

'Deadpool' (2016)
