how can deng be like thatcher,britain was already a first world power when thatcher took power and tried to destroy the socialist and the unions while deng on the other hand transformed china from a communist state to at least a semi open free market.not to mention his right hand man hu yaobang was pro political reform and liberal that stood for the people.

it's no big deal for Communist China to take back Hongkong. the British had no legitimacy to retain Hongkong after 1997. the CCP shouldn't even negotiate the god damn basic law agreement with the British. they should just take back Hongkong on its own terms and conditions. the PLA should have liberated Hongkong in 1949 while they obliterated the Nationalist forces in the last stage of the civil war. it is said the CCP reached an agreement with the British to honor the latter's control over Hongkong till the lease expires in 1997. in return, the United Kingdom will recognize the newly established People Republic of China. the transfer of Hongkong sovereignty from the Qing dynasty to the United Kingdom was the unequal treaties imposed on China. it is needless to honor those unfair treaties. Hongkong should have returned to the China Mainland in 1949.
