Thank You, PRC Drivers

Looking forward to the PRC government acting on the behalf of these workers.

1. SMRT violated the contract by not providing accepted lodging to these workers;
2. These workers have voiced their concerns to SMRT management but the latter chose to ignore them.

Hence, their decision to strike is sound despite the law. There is a law to forbid strikes, why isn't there a law requiring management to address issues raised by employees?

It takes foreigners to highlight the stupidity of the law put up by the millionaire cabinet.

i hope something good comes out from the prc driver strikers' sacrifice

Alternatively, to wait for the MIW to PAP - pass away peacefully.

i think Singaporeans cant just sit back and wait for things to happen...every opposition voting singaporean shd convert at least one more singaporean per year to vote against the pap at the next GE.

if every Singaporean opposition supporter does that, PAP will be voted out at the next GE

It's a double edged sword. Take from Peter to pay Paul. For example, if wages are regulated, companies will just transfer the
higher cost of hiring to the consumers and the vicious cycle repeats. the right policy to adopt is to increase corporate tax and lower GST and personal income tax. While this could stifle companies' bottom line, it would provide more liquidity for money to multiply with more employees having higher disposable income. Setting a minimum wage will have a negative knock-on effect as this is merely seen as raising manpower hiring costs.

good suggestion. i hope that the pap doesnt sit back and do nothing. there are many strategies the pap can employ to solve this problem. the worst is not to do anything

good thinking...but unfortunately, it never happened...and it will not happen.....the last one was one possibility, but it turned out very disappointing....PAP will continue to rule - renovate, relocate, reposition, rejuvenate....make itself relevant, resourceful and rejoice forever...and continue to RULE....:)

i think pap has done some damages that will move many singaporeans across from the 60%. Am i too optimistic?

singaporeans are very realistic and very pragmatic. many have matured politically too. so if the PAP continues to use the old carrot and stick method, it will fail....if it continues to play the bogeyman card again, it will fail....

but i believe the new leaders will appeal to the younger voters with their pragmatism and sound policies that required much re-examination and scrutiny....i believe singaporeans will continue to support and vote in the pap for quite some time UNLESS there is a viable and trust-worthy OPPOSITION.....so far there's no threat and i believe PAP will continue to dominate the local scene for many many more years....simply because it is prepared to change its ground, move its goal posts and come up with brave new policies for the GOOD of the people and the country....

with so much feedback and backlash, it's time for our world class governance to focus on our own people - the singaporeans. to give them better job opportunities and better wages, better working and living conditions....and the fertility rate will also naturally rise ...

Your statement is self-contradictory. If it has lost focus on serving our own people, how can it be a world class government?

This is the last resort of useless dogs of the Leegime trying to milk more money out before being out of control. Like how the Najib government is cashing out before elections. Problem is Leegime has the luxury till 2016.

This is the classic sign of the pappy mentality.

Their objective is not to serve the people, hence they have never considered that as a factor in being a world class government.

Their idea of world class government is having lots of reserves, getting acclaim and accolades worldwide (from those who don't understand the problems of ordinary singaporeans), having the highest possible gdp in a growing economy (even though the country is already jam packed with people) and not forgetting a beautiful skyline.

i agree with what you said. the three main factors that will determine next GE are:

1. how well the pap governs SG
2. Is the pap willing to listen and change
3. quality of Opposition candidates

i hope next GE heralds in change for SG. The way the pap runs SG cant do

yes, having lots of reserve does mean the pap is a good government. A rogue govt can also have lots of reserve.

a good govt is one who cares for the citizens, makes life better for the people and gives hope to the people. is pap such a government?
