any upgraded or enhanced restrictions ?

"2011 Under the new rules, no singing or music is allowed in the procession, and portable music equipment are banned as well."

Too bad. No public holiday with so many Indian citizen and India worker in Singapore.

its a holiday in KL, selangor, perak, negeri sembilan and possibly penang, states with sizable indian population.

Thaipusam is not what it used to be. Too sterilised like PAP.

The government claims that the singing and musical instruments are not part of the 'traditional' procession of Thaipusam. I don't know if they are correct. I do know that many people (esp younger devotees) had in the past begun to sing and use instruments and other devotees had gone along. That is the sign of the culture evolving as the profile of the devotees change.

What the government is doing is ossifying the ceremony into a museum piece, forever stuck in the past and getting more remote with each year.
