Election in Trang cancelled

The election has been cancelled in Trang province because voting ballots have not been delivered to any of the area's four constituencies.

Saneh Rakrong, election director for Trang, said none of the four constituencies had received voting ballots supposed to have been sent to them by the central office of the Election Commission as of 8am.

Therefore, polls across the entire province had to be cancelled, he said.

Anti-election protesters in the South have been blocking the delivery of voting ballots at post offices in the region.

Trang has 473,371 eligible voters and 889 polling units in four constituencies.

Provincial police chief Pol Maj Gen Jirawat Udomsuk said 1,500 police had been on stand-by to provide security at today's election. Since voting had been cancelled, they have been withdrawn to provincial police headquarters, he said.

No election in Phang Nga

General election voting in Phang Nga province has been cancelled because ballot papers and boxes could not be delivered to polling units, provincial election committee chairman Peera Phetpanich announced on Sunday.

The province was also unable to recruit enough officials to man all polling stations.

The cancellation would be reported to the Election Commission, Mr Peera said.

No election in Songkhla

Songkhla election committee has announced the cancellation of voting in the entire province because there are no officials to man 1,717 polling units in eight constituencies.

The province is also without voting ballots, which anti-election protesters prevented from being delivered to polling units.

The cancellation was announced by Chokchai Pholwattana, director of the Songkhla election committee.

Ampol Thammapalo, chairman of the election committee of Songkhla's Constituency 1, said only nine out of about 200 polling units had managed to recruit nine election officials as required by the law.

Yingluck votes in Bung Kum district

Ms Yingluck arrived at polling unit No 32 at 8.10am, where her name is number 174 on the list of eligible voters. A large number of police and soldiers were deployed at the school to provide security for the caretaker premier.

Her residence in Soi Yothin Pattana 3 was also heavily guarded. After casting her vote, the prime minister urged all eligible voters to exercise their right to do the same. She and other cabinet members are expected to monitor the rest of election day at the Office of the Defence Permanent Secretary at Muang Thong Thani on Chaeng Wattana Road.

Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra's ex-wife Potjaman na Pombejra and his daughters Pinthongta and Paethongtan also cast their votes on Sunday morning

Chuvit attacked by 'protester' (videos)

Chuvit Kamolvisit, leader of the Rak Thailand Party, was attacked by a man while on the way to vote at polling unit 84 in Din Daeng district, reports said. Mr Chuvit was walking to the polling station from his home in Soi Ratchadapisek 3 when a man clad in black with a whistle bearing the colours of the national flag charged at him and hit him on the left side of the head. The man, believed to be to be an anti-government protester, was immediately removed from the scene by Mr Chuvit's guards.

The attacker, who suffered a head injury, fled on motorcycle. Mr Chuvit reportedly said that he would not file a police complaint or hold any grudge against the man, adding that he only cared about exercising his right to vote. He said protesters are wrong to obstruct other people from voting, and asked asked the media to convey his message to People's Democratic Reform Committee leader Suthep Thaugsuban. Those who do not like the government can simply tick the "no vote" box, he said.

"After the brawl, Chuwit returned home without voting. He said he would not file a complaint with police."
He won't file a complaint?

Would you file a complaint against your own henchmen after some show acting?

That was my point. Put heavy emphasis on "He" and you get the gist of my comment.
