Thai charged with child abuse

Surasak Lateh being led out of the magistrate’s court in Kangar, Perlis, yesterday.

KANGAR: A 26-year-old Thai was yesterday charged with abusing his 37-day-old daughter on Christmas eve.

Surasak Lateh, from Padang Besar, pleaded not guilty to committing the offence at his house at 5.30am.

Magistrate Zuhair Rosli set bail at RM7,000 in two sureties and ordered him to report to the nearest police station once a week.

Surasak, who was represented by counsel Prem Singh Mohan, was also ordered to surrender his passport.

He is married to a Malaysian and his visa expires in October.

Zuhair fixed Feb 8 for mention.

Deputy public prosecutor Noor Syazwani Mohd Sobry prosecuted.
