Cambodia has condemned Thailand for destroying a Hindu statue of Vishna on Dec 22.

A government official from the Preah ES Vihear border region said that it was within Cambodia's An Ses area and "worshipped by Buddhist and Hindu followers.

Thailand responded on Dec 25 that the toppling was "related to security considerations and area administration" and not to disrespect religious beliefs, adding that the statue was "decorative" and not established as a religious site.
