Peter Tan Why not build some shelters for these people? There are alot of HDB housing that have empty units on the lower floors, that can be provided to these people. Once their housing are taken care of, then we have to help them to build up their life.

Joel Kong Mr Teo, while I applaud you and your Ministry for the good work done thus far, it is also of concerned that hurt comes in many different forms.
For eg, hurt could come in the form of the legislation and the parent with care & control ganging up against a parent to limit him from seeing his child. Even when the Care and Control Parent violate a Court Order, it seemed that the Judge (supposedly a JOP) is more concerned about his stories and also making the parent with only a mere 2 hours access time accept that even when a mistake is made, it is ok.
I am sure that MCYS have something to say about such things as it really deals parent with only a pitiful amount of time a big blow when they are already struggling to even see the other party upkeep with access time....

Serene Wong Think it is good that while you are helping her to resolve shelter issue, it may be good to send her to a family centre to see a psychologist to build up her confidence. Once she is over with the emotional hurt, she will have to courage to move on. She must first learn to be strong for herself and her children in order to move on... I am sure she ...

Joel Kong @Serene & Susan: If they are in an abusive environment, this is where the most powerful and beloved tool would come in. It is code-named "PPO" - short for Personal Protection Order.
It is a tool that anyone can obtain for the slightest cut that they have on their body or even a chipped fingernail, supposedly inflicted by their spouse. Application is free and on a first-come-first-served basis.
Rescindment would requires a great deal of time, amount and paperwork - not forgetting money....

Serene Wong Joel: yes, PPO is a procedure is good to get. Though process is tedious but it does help to deter the abuser up to a certain extend. Ultimately, the victim must be strong & firm enough not to fall back into the cycle all because they go soft on the one they "loved". I know this coz one of my friend is in exact situation. I had went with her to make police report like almost 15 times, yet each time she still let the man get back into the house:(
