Amid widespread fury from Singaporeans after the release of the government's population white paper, Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean stood up again Monday to publicly endorse it in Parliament.

Speaking to Members of the House on Monday, Teo said that he understood the concerns Singaporeans had over an increase in the migrant population and fears of "Singaporeans feeling like strangers" in their own country.

He went on to emphasise the importance of integration.

"Most of these migrants come from similar ethnic backgrounds. They will adapt to our lives, become more like us over time," said Teo as he sought to assuage a wave of negativity about Singapore's projected population of 6.9 million by 2030, of which little more than half would be Singaporean.

Speaking specifically on the issue of an increase in the number of foreigners with work passes, the deputy prime minister said that these migrant workers would be here to support, rather than join the population.

"Let us be clear. These foreigners with work passes are here to support Singaporeans' needs in the areas of healthcare, domestic workers and supporting our ageing population and families."

The jobs these work pass holders would be doing, he said were "jobs and services Singaporeans need but do not want to do ourselves."

How come the PRCs are still behaving like they are in China?

I remember one time that was this writer who wrote negative things about Myanmar in Today. The Myanmar community got so outraged that they took this chance to dis Singaporeans. That's was when I realized these immigrants come from countries that have a much stronger cultural background than Singaporean.

Indians born and bred in sinkapore are totally different from Indians from India in thinking, culture and mores. Chinese born and bred in sinkapore are totally different from PRC Chinese in so many ways that are too many to list. All sinkees are different from Pinoys. Teo should pull his head out of the hole to see for himself.

Of course, sinkees can't afford to take up those jobs when the pay does not commensurate with the years of education and the cost. Since when is nursing a job that sinkees shun? Many of the foreign nurses are here to get the experience so that they can move on to the developed countries after a few years. Their experience in sinkapore will boost their resume 10 times! Teo is definite the biggest moron in the cabinet - he should stop sleeping in Parliament and read up more.

Somebody should tell that dumb f**k that the immigrants are integrating amongst themselves and are creating a big enough group to slowly take over our daily lives.

Sporeans complain alot but most eventually go vote for papayas. Alot of people harped about 2016, but the next election is not due till about 2017. The May 2011 GE is not even 2 years old. The FT problem already exist back in 2011 nothing new.

Sporean complain then go vote for papayas.

The hard truth is most Sporeans still wish for papayas. They complain to be heard by the MIW thats all. It is Sporean wish they got what they wished for.

That there is little incentive to integrate is obvious from the many ethnic TV channels available on StarHub Cable ( especially Hindi
ones ) all reinforcing home cultures. Sure the argument is that this proves that Singapore is a cosmopolitan country. And of course StarHub obviously has many subscribing to these ethnic channels and must make money for its shareholders. But isnt the representation disproportionate? And counterproductive to integration efforts? Then there are SPH sponsored ethnic newspapers like the Tablad....

This is perhaps my observation but...

The earlier immigrants which came to SG to work, study and eventually becoming PRs and Citizens do actually make an effort to integrate with the locals. To give an example: In the 90s when I was still in school, the various foreigners are taking the first step to mingle around with us local students. Even when they establish a clique amongst themselves, still they took the initiative to mingle with us, hang out with us, and making an effort to understand our local lingo and culture. Even till today when I'm in contact with them, they sound more local as compared to where they are from (China, Cambodia, Myanmar, SK, Japan, etc)

Fast forward today. I have people complaining to me that they don't even bother to mingle anymore. Seems like they have this 'Superior' mentality that because their country has grown leaps and bound tremendously the past decade (China) they start to view SG as a province of their own as compared to being an independent country. With so many TV programs catering to their viewing needs, they begin to have the belief that we need them more than they need us.

This is so true. In other countries which I have visited due to work or play, I noticed that TV and news contents are still strongly based on culture centric. Programs specially for the immigrants are so little that the only way for me to get any sort of information or news from where I'm from is through the internet. We have sunk so low in this aspect that we are giving others the impression that we Singaporeans are willing to suit their standards and not the other way round.

How long does it takes for Singaporean immigrants to integrate into other country culture? Let's say you migrate down under, how long you took to integrate into their culture?

Wishful thinking! TCH is apparently blissfully unaware or feigning ignorance that mainlanders could not integrate with Hongkies; Indians from different provinces cannot get along with each other. Even Pakistanis are bombing each other. The immigrants who are here are so steeped in hate, mistrust and distrust of people outside their circle. These scroungers are only here to improve themselves economically. Integration? Pay only lip service 'yes'. Main mission - buy properties here, buy properties back home, produce children here and get govt grants by courtesy of stupid tax-payers, before kids reach NS call up age pack them to US or UK for further studies.

The govt has totally lost it. The point is not about getting them integrated. If we dont like the products of the loose immigration policy, how could anyone think about getting near it or touching it? In fact, we all want to kick all these buggers out of Singapore, including the PAP govt. Agree or not?

Does anybody want to hold, touch, carry or even coochy cooh a bastard baby?

They always claim they Listen and understand, like the Casino discussion, after majority of Singaporeans opposed it, Oh for the big picture to bring in more dirty money, more shit, the Pappets do not have a choice but to proceed.

TCH never lived the life of an ordinary Singapore, being son of big shot, does he understand what Life is for the common folk?

So Sad, the Pappeteer is still alive but not really kicking
