London, April 11 (IANS) A British teenager has reportedly been expelled from his school for refusing to shave off his moustache.

Marc Grey, 13, said he has been told by his physician not to use a razor regularly because it causes a hereditary skin condition to aggravate.

But he claims his school in Northumberland expelled him, saying that the moustache 'breaches its policy on appearance', according to The Sun.

His 53-year-old father Peter said: 'Marc should not have been expelled as he just followed his mum and dad's instructions.'

The family has appealed, saying the boy has pseudofolliculitis - a rash caused by shaving from which his 15-year-old brother also suffers.

'Staff did their utmost to work with the student and his parents, but we were left with no option than to exclude him,' the school principal said.

Never heard of electric shaver! If cannot use razor blade.

There are many ways to remove facial hair... Especially females! Since he has skin problem, suggest he go for a laser treatment or take female hormone pills. No worries...

Electrolysis removes hair follicles permanently. The young man may want to keep his facial hair in future. I don't see what's the problem with keeping facial hair in school when it starts to grow early. They have no problem with Singhs, why the problem with others? I remember in sec. school, me and an Indian classmate kept moustache for fun. We were hauled up the assembly stage and ridiculed with a mock demonstration of how to use a razor, then told to go home and shave. In police academy, another Indian squadmate had to produce a letter from his temple to keep his moustache. In US university, I kept long hair and full beard and nobody has a problem with it, officially and vocally. However, it's still frowned upon and prejudiced against, I could sense it in the streets and public services. It's like, men somehow must keep their hair short and young men somehow must shave; facial hair is for old men, destitutes and fugitives.
