Teen investigated for lying about lost mobile phone

A 16-year-old teenager is being investigated for making a false police report about how he had lost his mobile phone.

He had apparently lied to the police on Jul 2, saying that while at a sheltered walkway at Woodlands MRT station, a man had bumped into him from behind, causing him to drop his phone. The stranger then picked up his phone and ran off.

Police from Ang Mo Kio Police Division later found that the teen had made a false report that he was a victim of theft, when he had lost his mobile phone due to his own negligence.

Anyone convicted of giving false information to a public servant could be jailed for not more than one year, or fined not more than $5000, or both.

Read the full report in The Straits Times on Thursday (Nov 15).
