I’m also another former employee of MOE and let’s just say teachers rather suffer in silence…why rock the boat and jeopardise your career. There’s no avenue to complain – teachers are not supposed to air their views in any media, go to your respective heads and principals if there’s anything that you’re unhappy with. And if you do, you are perceived as being negative, or someone with the wrong thinking.
A lot of these foreign students who are ’scholars’ are not even academic materials to begin with. Nowadays, with this obsession with ranking, schools are going to places like China and India to ‘import’ sports fellas who good in eg badminton, table tennis, etc. Why? As defending champions, if you don’t do it, the other schools would. No puns intended, but that’s how the game is played.
How much resources are put in to get these students is yet to be seen. But all we know is that once their purpose is fulfilled, it’s bye bye, thanks for winning these for the school.
IMO, Ranking, which is supposed to improve and benchmark the schools, has turned it into a whole game and a lot of dedicated teachers who find this meaningless have since left the system.
