A former teacher was charged on Friday with having sex with a student on 18 occasions. He was also charged with one count of attempted sex.

The 41-year-old allegedly attempted to have sex with the 14-year-old in a room at the girl's secondary school in late 2007.

He is said to have sex with her almost once a month in the same room from Nov or Dec 2007 to Dec 2008.

He is also accused of taking the teen to a carpark at Upper Seletar Reservoir Park on six occasions from January to around mid-June 2009.

Former teacher pleads guilty to underage sex with student

By Alvina Soh | Posted: 23 December 2011 1619 hrs

SINGAPORE: A former secondary school teacher pleaded guilty to having sex with his underaged student, claiming it made him feel "more of a man".

Currently unemployed, the 41-year-old was found guilty of five counts of underage sex with the girl, who was 14 years old at that time.

They had sex on more than 15 occasions within a two-year period from end 2007, at various places including a Co-Curricular Activity (CCA) room of the school.

The teacher, who headed the school's design and technology department, was also in charge of the "Robotics Club" which the girl joined in 2006.

He asked the girl to be his girlfriend because he found her attractive.

The man, who was then married with a child, also bought her gifts when they were on school trips together to South Korea.

They started becoming intimate in the Robotics CCA room in the school by hugging and kissing each other.

He had sex with the girl the first time on a sofa bed inside the room.

This continued on several occasions in 2008 and the court heard that the teacher did not use a condom for most of the encounters.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Kavita Uthrapathy, who pressed for a jail term of between seven and 10 years, said "it was entirely fortuitous that the girl did not get pregnant".

The girl's age also came under scrutiny, with Ms Uthrapathy saying he had "preyed on her youth and vulnerability".

She added that the abuse of trust was a serious aggravating factor, and the teacher had also "violated the sanctity of the school" by committing the offences "very brazenly during the day."

The incident was only brought to light when his wife, who just gave birth to their second child, discovered text messages between the two in January 2010.

A few months later, she informed the girl's mother of the illicit relationship and a police report was made.

The court also heard that the teacher had harassed the girl over the phone, threatening to reveal the affair to her friends.

Ms Uthrapathy added that this caused the girl distress and recurrent nightmares, and she felt "trapped and traumatised".

The court also heard that the man did not express any form of guilt or remorse after committing the offence.

He was also observed to have acted normally by his wife and principals of his former schools.

But the court heard Friday that the man, who has no previous brushes with the law and received numerous awards during his time as a teacher, was remorseful.

He will be sentenced on January 17 next year.

If convicted, he could be jailed up to 10 years, fined or both.

Ex-teacher jailed 8 years for sex with 14-year-old student

Published on Jan 17, 2012

A former secondary school teacher was jailed for eight years on Tuesday by a district court for having sex with a student.

Now 41 years old and unemployed, the man was allowed to start serving sentence on Jan 25 so he can spend Lunar New Year with his wife and two daughters, aged two and four years old.

District Judge Jasvender Kaur increased his bail from $5,000 to $30,000 and ordered that he surrenders his passport to the police.

The judge said that the teacher had abused his position in the school and had 'destroyed the fundamental feeling of safety and protection that teachers entrusted with the care and education of students must provide'.

Not Strange Lah

How can this be strange ? She's 14 and she probably wanted to have sex at the young age as early as 10 yo. So, the hormones did it. If you are hungry, you eat. If you are sleepy, you sleep. But, it is those strange protocols that lead us to cap our desires or hunger and that lead to inaction. When the eyes are not prying on our social lives, we just do it. So, there's nothing strange or new here.

This is a case of fornication according to the bible. Both will be stoned to death according to His (Moses) Law. It's definitely NOT a rape. Statutory rape is another joke from the 'Law' faculty.

We will see more of such cases. Sinkie women are too high-maintenance and demanding. Teens, on the other hand, are just discovering their sexuality and willing to experiment. To a male Sinkie, especially one who sees ugly old hags in school every damn day, the prospect of young and easy flesh is very tempting.

Teacher jailed eight years for having sex with student
Posted: 18 January 2012 0637 hrs

SINGAPORE: In sentencing a former secondary school teacher who had sex with his underaged student to eight years' jail on Tuesday, a district judge said these offences caused "a feeling of outrage and revulsion in the community".

"The sentence must reflect that feeling," said Judge Jasvender Kaur.

The 41-year-old man, who headed the school's design and technology department, met the girl, then 14, when she joined the Robotics Club in 2006. He wooed her with gifts, told her she was pretty and lied that his marriage was on the rocks.

The man then had sex with the girl on more than 15 occasions over an 18-month period in various places, including the school's co-curricular activities room and his car at Upper Seletar Reservoir Park.

Judge Kaur said the most serious aggravating factor in this case was that the former teacher - who cannot be identified to protect the minor - had "breached the trust reposed in him by the school, by the girl's parents and by the girl itself".

"The offender has destroyed the fundamental feeling of safety and protection that teachers entrusted with the care and education of students must provide," she said.

Judge Kaur noted that the teacher was called up by the school's management about six months after he initiated the sexual trysts.

"He lied to cover up by claiming that he was like a father to the girl. Instead of repenting and putting a stop to his unlawful and deplorable conduct ... he persisted," said the judge.

The man was sacked from the Education Service following the revelation of his relationship to the girl.

Judge Kaur was "not impressed" with the man's claim of "a romantic relationship" between the pair, noting the "wide age disparity" of 23 years.

As for the man's claim that the offences were triggered by depression, Judge Kaur felt it did not lessen the offender's responsibility.

She stressed that the "primary policy of the law is to protect the young, who can be easily influenced at an age when they are emotionally vulnerable".

"It has to be made clear to persons occupying such positions of trust, and the parents of students who are the recipients of that trust, that an abuse of it will lead to heavy sentences from the courts," she said. - TODAY
